WASHINGTON, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn., may have lost the primary, but he leads in the polls and has some sharp words for his fellow Democrats.
Running as an independent, Lieberman has 53 percent of the vote in a new Quinnipiac University survey over 41-percent for Ned Lamont, the winner of Democratic primary, and a mere 4 percent for Republican challenger Alan Schlesinger.
The incumbent used that cushion Sunday to stick to his position that the United States should not be heading for the exits in Iraq, and to chide other party leaders for criticizing his seeming support for President Bush's Iraq policy.
He said on CBS' "Face the Nation" that his party was becoming too rigid in terms of ideology and should expect some loyalists to see certain issues differently.
He also criticized turning a race to represent Connecticut into a referendum on Iraq and the partisan battle between the two parties in Washington.
The Quinnipiac poll released Thursday also showed strong support among Republicans for Lieberman's re-election.
If Joe wins in Nov. we'll see what he's made of when the RATS come whining to him to join their caucus.
Looks like the Lement shockwave is turning into a mushy 1/2 footer.
Joe's a liberal, but his race is the latest political battle between Americans and the Islamic Fascists and their anti-American supporters.
Really, all Lieberman said is he supports the war on terror.
Which makes Lamont supporters against the war on terror.
So now we identify those supporters and use their names publicly.
54321, now start, the new freepers begging for people not to vote for lieberman
I don't live in Connecticut so I couldn't care less. If I did live there I would vote for the Republican. Probably a RINO anyway.
As far as I am concerned, Lieberman is a one issue candidate. He votes with Bush on the WOT and for me, right now I am good with that.
We know a Republican will not win in CT, so it is either Lieberman or Lamont.
Everyone is crying, "Lieberman votes Liberal 90% of the time." Well DUH!!! He is a Liberal. Hello!?!?!

Well I am an old Freeper(in more ways than one) and I still could not vote for yo yo Joe. But I do not live in CT so my opinion does not matter.
Joe already blew one 'chide cushion' so he'd be wise to keep the chiding to a minimum and just hang out on cruise control. Connecticut is still a very blue state.
100pct correct, i will be voting for K Harris here in Florida but unfortunately i expect fat mike loving nelson to be reelected
I don't know. Having a single democrat in favor of the WOT is a valuable thing. I think I'd vote for Lieberman if I were in CT.
I'd like to see Lamont's upcoming finance reports and how many bucks he pulls in from terrorist enclaves around the US trying to get Jewish Joe out of the Senate.
true,true
I'd rather Joe won.
But only after a dragout knockdown fight with lots of collateral damage to the National 'Rat Party.
Joe Lieberman has been a loyal and dedicated socialist his entire career in Congress. He has voted almost 90 percent the Democrat/socialist line all the way.
There is no evidence to suggest that as an "Independent" he will vote with conservatives.
>>Unfortunately, they will ignore the message that
>>extremist views hurt their party. And they will
>>continue to crash and burn.
I seenothing unfortunate about that (Schredenfreude).
Freegards
If the Lamont victory was such a referendum on Bush & Iraq then Lieberman would not be leading in such a manner. The Lamont victory was a referendum on the Democratic party. And it lost.
Gotta wonder if Joe isn't reaching the same conclusion that Reagan did. Not that he left the RAT party, but instead that the RAT party left him.
Either way...I'll never forgive him for suppressing the military votes down in Florida. He stands for nothing.
