Tehran, Iran - Iran says Sunday that it will offer a "multifaceted response" Tuesday to a Western package of incentives aimed at persuading Tehran to rein in its nuclear program, but insists it won't suspend uranium altogether.

Speaking after Iran's militrary test-fired 10 short-range missles, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi said at a news conference that a nuclear compromise would have to be reached during future negotiations.

"Everything has to come out of negotiations," Asefi said. "Suspension is not on our agenda."

The U.N. security council passed a resolution last month calling for Iran to suspend uranium enrichment by Aug. 31 or face the threat of economic and diplomatic sanctions...

It seems that a "future compromise" that Iran envisions is one where the West and the U.N. compromise and let Iran build a nuke...or two.

Iran said in the past that it would stop its nuclear enrichment, then it won't, then it will, then it won't, etc, etc. Now it says it won't...again.

If Iran violates the U.N. resolution that calls for them to suspend their nuclear enrichment program by Aug. 31, I wonder if Coffee Anan will say that they are indeed in violation of it, like he did with Israel concerning the cease fire agreement, or will he say that 'more negotiations are needed' to help make Iran come into conmpliance...basically some BS to that effect?

If their "multi-faceted" response involves the bombing of another country, it's going to start a very bloody war. I hope this August 22nd stuff is just another Y2K hysteria. I'll admit, it's starting to worry me.

Don't worry. The UN will just mail appeasement letter #257 which states, "Now we really, really, really mean it. We give you another six months before you hear from us again."

With a P.S. at the bottom that says:

"Please, please, pretty please, don't build a nuke during that time."

"Thank you."

"U.N."

Yup, nothing will be done about Iran. The UN and EU will ofcourse do nothing - anyone with half a brain could see that. Sadly though, it appears to me that the Bush administration is so weakened and in such a state of dissaray that it will never actually resort to force once it becomes clear to even the blindest of the blind that these negotiations with Iran will go nowhere.

Unless Israel steps in or something new happens to change the present dynamic, Iran will have a nuclear arsenal within a few short years.

Sadly this administration looks defeated. Sorry, RUSH. There is no spin to make it look different. Condi & Rumsfeld need to exit now. Maybe that could sell enough to keep the pubbies a majority. Who knows. But I know one thing that I have stated since GW came into office. There will be NO true conservative Supreme Court when he leaves.

FWIW, From a long term strategy, I think we almost need Iran to hit Israel. Israel retaliates, war escalates, W grows a pair and our Air Force drops SERIOUS ordnance on Tehran.

Some WWII style warfare is required to take out Tehran and significantly curtail terrorism.

Oh no! Not diplomatic sanctions! Ackmed! Stop making nukes immediately! We just can't do without diplomatic benifits!

The Usless Nations is a joke. Just like it cease fire, and weak demands that Hezbollah disarm. They are re-arming, and there is NOTHING the UN can do about it, except yell at Israel for ENFORCING the UN ceasefire conditions. You'd thing Koffi Anus.. er Annan would THANK Israel for enforcing the resolution.

"Sadly this administration looks defeated."

Sadly, I have to agree. I keep hoping that Bush will step up to the plate, that the while team will stand united and do what needs to be done, kick some butt, but instead they cower to the polls and run for cover from the nonsense the RAT pack throws at them, instead of standing up to them and firing back. Spineless.

Iran Says It Won't Suspend Enrichment

If I were president, my response would be "That's okay We'll suspend it for you"

Even if this does go to the security council for a vote on sanctions, won't China simply veto it because of all the oil and natural gas deals they've been making with Iran?

And I'll believe that Iran wants to enrich uranium for "civilian purposes only" the same day that I believe hippies want bongs for "tobacco purposes only."

Do you really think that if Condi and Rummy resigned it would make a difference?

Anyone that Bush would nominate to replace them would be filibustered in the Senate unless they were to the left of Lieberman.

Man, these defeatist attitudes are just wonderful to witness this early in the morning. Let's try something else.

Rummy has preosecuted a great war. Granted there were mistakes, always is in war. Tell me who on this earth would have been a better defense secretary? Berger?

Who would have been a better Secretary of State? Albright?

As far as the Supreme Court, there are two years to go and two RAT judges are 85 and 72 respectively. Unfortunately justices have a long shelf life.
