- Adults in the United States place three Republican politicians as their top choices for the next presidential nomination, according to a poll by the Pew Research Center for the People and Press. 26 per cent of respondents would vote like Arizona senator John McCain to be the next presidential candidate.
Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani is a close second with 24 per cent, followed by current state secretary Condoleezza Rice with 18 per cent. Support is lower for former House of Representatives speaker Newt Gingrich, Virginia senator George Allen, Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, Tennessee senator Bill Frist, and Kansas senator Sam Brownback.
In 2000, McCain won seven GOP presidential primaries in the United States, but retired from the race after eventual nominee George W. Bush became the frontrunner.
Giuliani garnered national and international attention in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Last month. Giuliani’s political action committee, Solutions America, reported total contributions of $1.49 million U.S. for June.
Rice previously served as Bush’s national security advisor. In October 2005, she appeared to rule out a presidential bid, saying, "It’s not what I want to do with my life, it’s not what I’m going to do with my life."
In American elections, candidates require 270 votes in the Electoral College to win the White House. In November 2004, Bush earned a second term after securing 286 electoral votes from 31 states. Democratic nominee John Kerry received 252 electoral votes from 19 states and the District of Columbia.
Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The next presidential election is scheduled for November 2008.

Except they talked to registered, not likely, voters. And I would think those folks would be more likely to poll RINO.
McCain just topped a small Iowa Poll last week. He's really scaring me.

Ken Mehlman is doing his best to compromise the conservatives. We hear this crap day in, day out. They are hoping we all buy into it and eventually surrender. It won't happen. If the GOP nominates either McCain or Giuliani, consider Hillary Clinton a shoo-in as President in 2008.
Likely voters who have been polled are saying pretty much the same thing. It's Rudy or McCain. The other ones except Condi can't get out of the single digits. Allen just kicked himself in the butt last week and in a Rasmussen poll that came out last week he's 49% while Webb is 45%. That's too close for comfort.
I guess his numbers are too low.
Is anybody besides McCain actually running?
And it would seem that McCain is seeking the Dem'crat vote more than he is the Republican vote.
Must we simply surrender to the overwhelming tide of the public favor running to Dem'crats? (that last was meant to be sarcastic)
If you remove the senators that could not and should not win, it isn't much of a list.
I think 43 has a successor in mind. And when the time is right he'll reveal him/her. Until then, the pollsters are welcome to waste their money :)
Regardless of who was polled, conservatives will not vote for the candidates who stand against them on the issues:
Abortion
Partial Birth Abortion
Higher Taxes
Gun Control and/or Confiscation
Religious issues
Homosexual Agenda
School Vouchers
Illegal Invaders and/or Immigrants Amnesty
Pick any issue, and ask these candidates where they stand.
The results will shock everyone.

This is merely a name recognition poll of a general population. It is not entirely worthless, but it is far less important than the pundits (especially the MSM cheerleaders for McCain) would have us believe. The actual selection will be done by energized and concerned primary voters, a much smaller and more select group that can and will be influenced by targeted efforts by the candidates.
