When Um Ali Mihdi returned to her home in the southern Lebanese city of Bint Jbeil two days ago, she found a 1,000lb (450kg) Israeli bomb lying unexploded in her living room.
The shell is huge, bigger than the young boy pushed forward to stand reluctantly next to it while we get our cameras out and record the scene for posterity.
The bomb came through the roof of the single-storey house and half-embedded itself into the floor, just missing the TV.
There is a hole in the roof with exactly the same profile as the shell itself, like when a cartoon character runs through a wall. The tailfin - complete with skull-and-crossbones marking - still lies on the roof next to the hole where it broke off.
This is just one of thousands of nasty surprises greeting those coming back to southern Lebanon after Israel's five-week war with the Hezbollah militant group

Cue the screaming goblins.
This is what happens when a culture that doesn't care about life meets a culture that doesn't care about truth.
Reckless endangerment and defamation, but who cares right? They're the media and are above the law and ethics.
When the truth is not good enough, just make it up.
I'm no photographer, so that's a guess. The photo simply looks odd to me.
Maybe it's just the artsy-fartsy tilt/angle of the photo (unless the floor of the house actually goes downhill, to the left).
Ping to a shocking article and post #1.
Nope. I credited LGF - It is their title and their find.
Bingo.
Just more artistic license to make it seem worse than it is.
Where is the horrible bombed out homes and buildings in Isreal? Oh wait, I forgot. Lebanon was just sitting there minding it's own business and WHAM, Isreal attacked.
LG who? What? Where's the link?
What's wrong with the original title?
What does the DNC position on abortion have to do with anything?
"just missing the TV"
Holy cow, that was close!
Exactly what sort of "bomb" is that anyway? It looks like an artillery shell with the casing still attached, and if that's the case, it was placed there, not dropped by a plane or fired by a gun.
As well they should -- especially those with incorrect headlines, leading to duplicate FR posts.
"I guess I didn't provide the LGF link for the lazy."
Why do you assume my request was due to laziness?
Given the extensive and documented history of fraud in the reporting from Lebanon, methinks you ought to take a chill pill on this one. The original title would also not have given readers an indication the the media was up to more of its Lebanese hijinks - and I'm normally a stickler for keeping the title.
RTFA. "The tailfin - complete with skull-and-crossbones marking - still lies on the roof next to the hole where it broke off."
It doesn't look large enough to weigh 1000 pounds. I do not know how to post a photo, but I did a photo search on Google and found photos of GI's standing next to 500 and 1000 pound bombs. Both look a lot larger than the device depicted in the photo.
Follow your own advice. Chill out.
He didn't say it was fraud - he said it was staged, which it was. Quit putting words in the other poster's mouth.
Great comment.
Actually, posting a source link isn't for the benefit of the lazy around FR, it's because JimRob & Etc. like news items to be verified.
I had a liberal say he didn't believe Qana was staged - his thought was that no one would put their children in harms way for proganda value.
This proves him dead wrong. Thanks for the post, despite what a whiner or two may say otherwise.
You keep throwing up Mickey Mouse examples like these as proof that the media is perpetrating fraud and sooner or later people will tune you out. Sooner, I hope. This is a non- issue.

1000 lb. bomb - during WWII - looks heavier than the one the BBC is promoting...
They wouldn't lie or exaggerate to us, would they???
Yeah, they are so brazen now they admit to staging photos.

Non-issue? Wholesale manipulation of media images is a non-issue? I pointed out to the poster that this invalidates a liberal talking point about Qana - that Lebanese parents would not put their kids in harms way for a photo op. You are so stinkin' anal about this you can't see the bigger picture. Or maybe you LIKE twising information to suit your purposes.

"Wholesale manipulation of media images is a non-issue?"
How does having a picture of a boy posing next to a bomb and describing it as a picture of a boy posing next to a bomb constitute 'manipulation'?
Something doesn't look right: 1000 bomb?
Cannon shell maybe (flat rear end, maybe a ring near the bse), but a bomb shaped like that?
Fuze, nose don't look right.
It's part of the larger stable of media manipulation we've seen in Lebanon. The boy was shoved into the image to give it more impact, at abject risk to the child. If it was just one example, it would not be a big deal. But we have seen tons of this stuff - photoshopping, staging, and false captions, just for starters.

Time for the New York Times to fess up. They got a prize for this one.
Looks like it... do you think that thing next to the little boy is almost 8 feet long
and about 15 inches in diameter? Looks smaller than that to me.

Yeah, you're right. And that so-called "TV" in the picture looks different than a 1950's TV.
I think the whole photo is fake.

Exactly. It's not a bomb and it didn't come through the ceiling. It's an artillery shell fired from a gun.
The shell is huge, bigger than the young boy pushed forward to stand reluctantly next to it while we get our cameras out and record the scene for posterity.
A boy was forced to come in and stand next to a a bomb for photographers.
perfect description.
The round hole in the ceiling above the object, matching the diameter of the object, and the bomb fins on the roof next to that hole, indicate what to you?
"It's an artillery shell fired from a gun."
Yep. From a 1200mm cannon, and it came in through the front door.
brilliantly stated .. pithy, even ;)
BBC photograph = assume it's staged or fake
Ping for later reference.
Yes, I've experienced the phenomenom of parents wanting their kids in every photo that you take myself. Probably not too smart when the photo is of an unexploded bomb. Although if you're living in a house with an unexploded bomb in it anyway, shouldn't think it makes all that much difference.
:) Just started my own blog so I have had to practise my "pith".
Somebody is lying. I'm an old diesel sub sailor but I can still identify an artillery shell, lol.
