Ramsey arrest: Real evidence

Since the JonBenet Ramsey case burst back into the spotlight, much of the misinformation fed to the public has emerged again.

Here's a little refresher course on what we know is real:

The 93-page ruling by a U.S. district judge in a 2003 civil suit was the first real judicial analysis of evidence found at the scene.

Judge Julie Carnes examined evidence gathered by police, pointed out shortcomings in the investigation and came to the conclusion that it was more likely that an intruder killed JonBenet than Patsy Ramsey.

Here's the evidence we know:

- An autopsy report noted injury to JonBenet's genitalia, suggesting she was sexually assaulted shortly before her death. Unknown male DNA was found under JonBenet's fingernails and in her underwear.

- A Caucasian 'pubic or auxiliary' hair was found on the blanket covering JonBenet's body. The hair did not match any Ramsey family member.

- JonBenet was discovered in the wine-cellar in the basement of the family's home with duct tape covering her mouth. A cord was around her neck, attached to a wooden garrote, and her hands were bound over her head.

- The slipknots and garrote were both sophisticated bondage devices designed to give control to the user. Carnes wrote, "these devices suggest they were made by someone with expertise using rope and cords."

- The black duct tape also could not be "sourced" to the Ramseys' home. Animal hair, thought to be from a beaver, was found on the duct tape. No similar hair was found in the home. Similar hair was found in JonBenet's hands.

- Injuries to the right side of JonBenet Ramsey's face were consistent with injuries sustained from a stun gun.

-A shoeprint of a "HI-TEC" boot was found imprinted in mold on the basement floor and a palm print was found in the wine cellar. Neither was sourced to the Ramseys.

- A baseball bat not belonging to the Ramseys was found on the north side of the house. Fibers found on the bat on it were consistent with fibers in the carpet in the basement near JonBenet's body.

In her ruling, Carnes also addressed misinformation fed by the media.

"Moreover, contrary to media reports that had discredited an intruder theory, based on the lack of 'footprints in the snow,' there was no snow covering the sidewalks and walkways to the defendants' home on the morning of December 26, 1996," Carnes wrote. "Hence, a person walking along these paths would have left no footprints."

Same here. It's sick as hell on the part of the mothers, whom I suspect are well past their prime and living vicariously through their daughters.

>Here's the evidence we know

But we do not know
the context of the child's house.
If the girl's parents

were normal, the house
probably was what we think.
But if one or both

parents had "problems" --
if they abused JonBenet --
then we can't begin

to imagine how
to think of the "evidence."
For instance, her dad

or her mom might have
prostituted JonBenet
to perverts they knew.

The injuries, then,
might not reflect the crime night.
When a child's parents

either one or both
are sexual nuts, the things
they do to children

can't be imagined
by normal people. No one
knows about this case.

I think women have
beaver coats . . . This might just mean
the mother had tape

in her coat pocket
and simply threw out the coat
after that one night . . .

Either she or JonBenet had beaver hair on the decorative top of a pair of boots -- I think it was Patsy, but can't recall specifically right now.

They still haven't definitively stated that it's beaver hair, anyway.

Is it still OK for me to think the dad was creepy - 'cuz I still think he's creepy - even if he's innocent - he's an innocent creep.

The wooden garrote was, in fact, fashioned from the handle of one of Patsy Ramsey's paintbrushes. I, for one, can't imagine an intruder foraging stealthily around a house looking for tools of torture. Nor can I fathom a kidnapper leaving a 3 page ransom note written with one of the Ramsey's Sharpies, on their notepad. This "intruder" came extraordinarily ill-prepared, or was so cheap he was compelled to use just what happened to be on hand.

Or....it wasn't an intruder. This Karr guy has demonstrated himself as a nutcase and dangerous. He may even have some indirect knowledge of the case beyond his obsession gained through the news. But, I just can't believe he was the murderer.

And put the Sharpie right back in the pencil holder it came from, too, lol.

I don't believe Karr, either. Maybe the spotlight will help flush out some undesirables from their hidey-holes, tho. That's the hope, anyway.

Thanx for posting the handwriting analysis link.

Don't know how widely reported this has been but, the following was interesting & it was news to me.

...John Mark Karr....tangled with California authorities five years ago after telling an acquaintance that he broke into the Ramsey house the night of the slaying.

Wendy Hutchens of Roseville, Calif., told the Santa Rosa Press Democrat and KRON-TV in San Francisco that she contacted Sonoma County authorities five years ago after Karr told her that he met JonBenet at the family's Christmas party, then sneaked back into the house that night through a downstairs storm window.

Hutchens said she alerted the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department and recorded her conversations with Karr as evidence. Authorities later searched Karr's Petaluma home and found enough evidence to charge Karr with five counts of child-pornography possession. He served six months in jail before leaving the United States.

Sonoma and Boulder county authorities would not comment on the woman's accusations, nor whether the Sonoma County office ever contacted the Boulder prosecutor about a connection to the Ramsey slaying...

That Sonoma County officials knew about Karr's link to the case and apparently failed to notify Boulder County prosecutors could indicate that they thought his claims had little merit, said Denver lawyer and analyst Scott Robinson.

"They must have discounted what he had to say because it doesn't look like they ever contacted Boulder," Mr. Robinson said. "If it does turn out he's the guy, then they've got some heavy explaining to do."

Karr Confessed 5 Years Ago

(Article states that Karr initiated contact with Hutchens & that she was a 'childhood acquaintance' of Polly Klass killer, Richard Allen Davis.)

Your right. It does seem odd the way he was so ill- prepared.
