I imagine Sumner Redstone wanted to get a dig at Cruise for all the money they think his current weirdness has cost Paramount. I can't blame him.

I saw MI3, it was not a good movie. Watching Mr. Cruise's fine backside was pleasant, but not pleasant enough to see the movie again, nor to buy the dvd.
Long way of saying it wasn't Tom's fault MI3 flopped.

"His recent conduct has not been acceptable to Paramount."
And then they turn around and sign a deal with the makers of South Park.

The Dianetics acting method CLEARly isn't cutting it in the time track of Tommy's current Thetan skills.

I guess you could call it 'Cruise control' but I'm unhappy with the situation as I had looked forward to watching him jump up and down on Oprah's couch again.

Redstone didn't get his bucks by being dumb. I'm sure he's quite convinced that the Cruise circus is just beginning its world tour.

I am trying to understand what exactly is behind this guy's pull. He is an average actor with an intense stare and can prance around the stage like a monkey. Why is he such a box office draw? Granted many young girls still swoon over him but that's not his core audience. So whats the deal ?
To: Anti-Bubba182
Tom Cruise is definitely crazier.
Just shut up and act!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is bad business and it seems like more Americans are refusing to finance people they don't like off the screen or stage.

"His recent conduct has not been acceptable to Paramount." That is just the official reason. The real reason is that Paramount is getting fed up with the increasingly large chunk of cash that Cruise walks away with leaving very little for the studios(25m + % of gross). From what I have read Cruise made $100m from MI3, and couple that with the poor opening weekend and overall weak performance, its enough to piss off any studio exec.

Poking around the web and came across this little tid-bit (one of about half a zillion other Tom Cruise trivia...trivii?) from the celeb. gossip site
Celebrity WonderIn TOP GUN (1986), he is an inch too short to be a Navy pilot (minimum height 5'8, based on minimum sitting height 32 and minimum leg length 36).
Is this true or a bunch of baloney? I keep hearing that Cruise is a little bit of a guy, but while 5'7" is somewhat sort for a guy it's not that short.

Mr Redstone is getting old and wants St Peter to know he is a good guy. First he sold CBS and now fired Tom Cruise.
He really believes an image work over will open the pearly gates.

But, jeez, dont fire him with this lame stuff that Sumner didnt like the way Tiny Tom behaved. If thats true, then no Hollywood studio can ever hire anyone. Drugs, sex, harrassment, mendacity, fraud: Paramount like most major studios has a rich history of horrible behavior by its work-for-hires. I could reel off for you 10 people now with rich studio deals, some at Paramount, who should be in jail or rehab or the Funny Farm but instead are well-paid miscreants.I'd say this covers it.

I'm no Cruise fan, but he dumped Viacom. Not the other way around. Redstone is just dining on his usual meal of sour grapes.
