The president spoke with UN SG Kofi Annan about the international force being assembled for Lebanon; the Iranian regime's statement on its nuclear program; and the need to improve the situation in Darfur. He attended a fundraiser for Senator George Allen, R-VA.

President Bush met with Rockey Vaccarella, Louisiana victim of Hurricane Katrina, to discuss rebuilding efforts there.

QUOTE OF THE DAY!!!!!

MR. VACCARELLA: It is ... really amazing when a small man like me from St. Bernard Parish can meet the President of the United States. The President is a people person. I knew that from the beginning. I was confident that I could meet President Bush.

... I wanted to thank President Bush for the millions of FEMA trailers that were brought down there. They gave roofs over people's head. People had the chance to have baths, air condition. We have TV, we have toiletry, we have things that are necessities that we can live upon.

But now, I wanted to remind the President that the job's not done, and he knows that. And I just don't want the government and President Bush to forget about us. And I just wish the President could have another term in Washington.

THE PRESIDENT: Wait a minute. (Laughter.)

MR. VACCARELLA: You know, I wish you had another four years, man. If we had this President for another four years, I think we'd be great.

Having the president's ear, Rockey Vaccarella, 41, of the St. Bernard Parish in Louisiana, discusses Hurricane Katrina relief.

Bush smiles as he stands with Rockey Vaccarella, who lost his home in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and who drove to D.C. to speak directly to the President, told reporters, "I just don't want the government and President Bush to forget about us," adding, "If we had this President for another four years, I think we'd be great."

Bush looks on as Rockey Vaccarella, left, talks about rebuilding the Gulf Coast region. Vaccarella said he wanted to thank Bush for the federally provided trailers that have provided temporary housing to many in the region who lost homes, but also to keep the pressure on.

After talking to reporters regarding rebuilding the Gulf Coast region. Vaccarella, 41, of Mereaux, La., traveled to Washington in a mock FEMA trailer to call attention to the state's post-Katrina problems

Mr. Vacarella, you are a suck-up! (smile)

I'm sure President Bush doesn't want another 4 years, I wouldn't if I were him.

Thanks for the dose, GretchenM!

Remembering the troops President Bush deployed to Iraq, and the mission ...
"July 5, 2006, U.S. Army Soldiers assigned to 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team fire mortar illumination rounds in support of a targeting mission in Tall Afar, Iraq."

There is a 9/11 miniseries done by ABC that will air September 10 and 11.

A conservative reporter previewed the miniseries and gave it incredibly high marks and said it is very harsh on Clinton's negligence regarding terrorism.

"This is the first Hollywood production I’ve seen that honestly depicts how the Clinton administration repeatedly bungled the capture of Osama Bin Laden. One astonishing sequence in "The Path to 9/11" shows the CIA and the Northern Alliance surrounding Bin Laden’s house in Afghanistan. They're on the verge of capturing Bin Laden, but they need final approval from the Clinton administration in order to go ahead. They phone Clinton, but he and his senior staff refuse to give authorization for the capture of Bin Laden, for fear of political fall-out if the mission should go wrong and civilians are harmed. National Security Adviser Sandy Berger in essence tells the team in Afghanistan that if they want to capture Bin Laden, they'll have to go ahead and do it on their own without any official authorization. That way, their necks will be on the line - and not his. The astonished CIA agent on the ground in Afghanistan repeatedly asks Berger if this is really what the administration wants. Berger refuses to answer, and then finally just hangs up on the agent. The CIA team and the Northern Alliance, just a few feet from capturing Bin Laden, have to abandon the entire mission. Bin Laden and Al Qaeda shortly thereafter bomb the U.S. embassies in Tanzania and Kenya, killing over 225 men, women, and children, and wounding over 4000. The episode is a perfect example of Clinton-era irresponsibility and incompetence."

Update on the hostage situation with Fox News' Steve Centanni and cameraman Olaf Wiig: Centanni's Kidnappers Demand Release of Jailed Muslims .

"The images of the men sitting in a dark, drab room were the first sign of the journalists since they were abducted Aug. 14 from their TV van in Gaza City. ... In a statement attached to the video, a group calling itself the Holy Jihad Brigades railed against the U.S. wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and characterized them as a war against Islam. It made no demands of Israel."

Wow, Peach, and this'll be on ABC? I'm pinching myself to see if I'm awake, here.

Ouch! I'm awake! I'll be sure to watch it.
