California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and his counterparts from Texas, Arizona and New Mexico made stopping illegal immigration a central theme at their annual meeting Thursday with governors from Mexico's border states.
Schwarzenegger, a Republican, and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, a Democrat, introduced a resolution calling for all 10 U.S. and Mexican border governors to fight criminality along the border, including drug smuggling and illegal immigration, instead of waiting for their federal governments to do the job.
At the same time, the resolution called for the governors to stand against the prolonged presence of the U.S. National Guard along the border, and said it was the responsibility of federal leaders in Mexico and the U.S. to address the root economic causes of illegal immigration.
Perry and Schwarzenegger also used the event to ask the federal government to continue increasing border security funding, saying that bolstering the law enforcement presence on the U.S. side is clearly showing results.
Chertoff called on the border governors to continue cooperating to stop illegal immigration.
"These groups try to operate in the shadows between our governments," Chertoff said of human smugglers, adding, "By working together, we are seeing real progress in apprehending these men."
Code Pink, the antiwar group, attempted to "arrest" all four American border governors, arguing they had tacitly supported the militarization of the border.

are you kidding me? ILLEGAL Immigration is a problem? I thought this problem is gone because there are no people in the streets protesting. Interesting... /s
Perry speaks in civil servant code. What he really said was
Fellow civil servants. We must control the drug smuggling and any whiff of terror including those swarthy folks from the middle east. Otherwise we lose our fine jobs when the American people push back.
You are correct. Spot on.

Freeping the Govenors
4 Governors are in Austin Tx for a confrence on the borders. Texas, NM, AZ and California are here. Code Pink and looked like La Raza were going to be there. So Freepers frantically called and arrainged to show up to oppose them. I heard the Texas minutemen were going to be there but we didn't find them.
In attendance, The Bat Lady, Gracey, Brian, Rebecca and her friend Wilma, Grant Rostig running against Lloyd Doggett US Rep District 4, Brad and Daniel who just happened by but stayed from beginning to end.
Daniel joined us when we were just 2 and I told him about the conference and asked him what he would do on the border and he said, Build a fence! What simple logic. I asked him to stay for a while and he did for the whole time. He was born in the USA Hispanic and was translating some of the speeches for us. Gave some guff back to them too.
We had signs, a big American flag and they kept coming to our corner to hassle us. One guy admitted to being rude and yelled at me that he will ALWAYS be rude to fascists.
That guy made it clear that I was the enemy and then yelled Death to the enemy Wonderful fellow, but he was a Vietnam vet and I thanked him for his service before we went back to yelling at each other.
Freepers watch your signs when they come to your corner. They are thieves. One guy was looking thru the signs and I said< Who are you? He said, Well I'm not with those guys then he grabbed 4 of the best signs and walked across the street to their side. When the bag fell off in the street and he didn't pick it up (litterbug) I knew he WAS one of the other guys (LIAR) and stealing our signs. I ran across the street (looking back should have been yelling STOP THIEF) and he passed them on to another guy but I blasted thru that crowd and they dropped the signs up against the side of the building and moved on.
So I got them back, just watch out for stealing and spitting. Tomorrow I will have a whistle and will check with the police to understand that if we whistle it is more than just freedom of speech.
Also got in a yelling spat with an older lady. Her family came from Italy (legally) and that is the same for these workers coming over illegally (in her mind) also with all the poverty they should just be able to come here because they are the working class holding up America. Basically, sounded like no borders, let everyone in and it is their country anyway. Mexitex I guess. So we should just go back home. Hum, thought I was home.
Brad had an effective method, when the guy across the street was yelling things at us, he would say can't hear you, son. So the guy would scream louder. Wonder what his voice is going to be like tomorrow?
I talked to some police on the way to the car and asked about them doing something if they come over to our corner and he said they couldn't because of freedom of speech. However he said he was on my side, I said no, you were way over here and he said but he watched me take on the Vietnam vet (who called me racist, fascist and the enemy) and the policeman said I took him on very well and didn't take any guff. High praise I thought.
we are going to try to be there from 9am till 3:30 when the meetings are over today. boy, the other side are nasty people.
"Code Pink, the antiwar group, attempted to "arrest" all four American border governors, arguing they had tacitly supported the militarization of the border."
We have a couple of code pinkos on this board. They are constantly ragging about our attempts to stop illegal immigration and continue to foster the big lie that people who want secure borders are anti-business.
I Just wish I knew what businesses these people ran so that we could advertise the fact that they are code pinkos in disguise.

Thanks for the post and good luck, Bat Lady.
boy, the other side are nasty people.
It's their stock in trade.
Thank you for the great report! You know we were there with you in spirit. But with the two freeperettes in school there is no way I could get there. I did look for some coverage in the news. I think I might have heard some of you but they didn't mention any counter protest.
If there is global warming, I can tell your exactly where the hot air is coming from.
I've never seen this much effort expended by a myriad of groups and individuals from the common guy on the street to Presidents of nations, to do absolutely nothing to stop a serious problem.
thanks! I will write up a report of today's freep but have got to get some food first :)
So this morning we had someone out there early but he had to leave and then Rebecca took over and staked out a shady spot right in front of the Driscoll and next to the State Trooper's car (our guardian angels). I brought lots of water this time. The troopers had already said that the Governors were at the Capitol but she thought they had already gotten our message and we needed to target the people and get the message out.
Joseph was walking by with a Navy hat on and stayed to talk to us for a long time, held signs and even passed out Rebecca's literature to the people passing by. Left for lunch then came back.
One couple Dave (immigrated legally from Canada, became a US Citizen and served in the Army) and Nae-Nae (native American from several tribes) thanked us for being there. Totally astounded that the other side said it was their country and we need to go home. Well, Dave at least had another country to go back to but I don't unless I learn the mother tongue.
Gary was driving by and walked back up the street to thank us for being out there. He knew the conference was going on and glad that some were showing our side. They homeschooled their kids and I said that is the REAL future of America. He stayed and talked for quite a while.
Right before I left we had two young Hispanic ladies come by. She was an illegal alien who spoke very good English. I asked her why she came to America and she said because she thought it was free. (not freedom, FREE) I was pretty stunned and this may be why we have such a problem. They think being free means free stuff, free living etc. One of the reasons I told her that we are concerned is the gangs coming across. She said her family was in the MS13. I said I was sorry about that. She said SHE was in the gang, I said I was sorry. Fortunately Rebecca talked to her mostly because I was gaping my mouth like a fish out of water, just stunned.
Today with the other side probably at the Capitol, there was reasoned conversations with all who stopped to talk even the ones we didn't totally agree with. Good freeping!

Thanks for the report Bat-Lady. You're tag-line is right too. 100 million in the short term. Sad...
Doing the photo-opping and political posturing that other Governors won't do.
Exactly
We're obviously outsourcing the wrong jobs. What illegal could do worse to govern than our current elected officials?
