Sarajevo, 25 August (AKI) - Bosnian Serb leaders slapped back at their Muslim colleague, Sulejman Tihic today, for saying that if they didnt like the country, they could pack up and leave. The row, seen as a part of political game before October's parliamentary elections, centres on Muslim demands for the abolition of the Bosnian Serb entity, Republika Srpska (RS) and Serb threats to hold a referendum on independence if Muslims persisted in their demands.
Tihic, a Muslim member of Bosnias three-man rotating state presidency, said on Thursday that those who want to secede form Bosnia can pack up and leave, "but cant take away an inch of Bosnian territory". According to the Dayton peace accord that ended civil war in Bosnia, the country was divided into two entities, a Muslim-Croat federation and RS, but the international community, which safeguards peace in Bosnia, has been gradually stripping entities of their state prerogatives, stepping up Muslim demands for abolition of RS.
Borisav Paravac, a Serb member of the state presidency, slammed back at Tihic, saying his statement was an "irresponsible and scandalous act". "Bosnia isnt his private property," said Paravac, adding that RS covers 49 per cent of Bosnias territory and that Serbs are one of three constituent peoples, with equal rights.
RS Prime Minister Milorad Dodik retorted that Tihics statement represented a drastic example of hate and chauvinism which will only further inflame ethnic passions in Bosnia.
"In Tihics statement one can easily recognize an Islamic concept which sees Bosnia as its exclusive right," said Dodik. "Serbs are constituent people in Bosnia claim the same right to the country and to live in it," said Dodik.
The high representative of the international community in Bosnia Christian Schwarz Schilling last week appealed to the leaders of all three nationalities to stop inflammatory rhetoric, but the quarrels continue relentlessly as the election date draws closer.
BOSNIA: SERBS DEEM MUSLIM LEADER'S COMMENTS 'IRRESPONSIBLE'
my apologies
Thanks, Wm!
Ping
This sounds vaguely familiar - I'm sure I've heard it somewhere before...
I remember back when Bosnia was the NPR poster child for ethnic cleansing, and all these libs I know were screaming about genocide!!
Thanks. How does one get a hold of Administrative moderators, do you know?
Just put "Admin Moderator" in the to: box
Heck! That's just what Alija Izetbegovic said in The islamic Declaration!!!!
The "Bosnian" islamists always meant what they said, which is to create an islamic, sharia-ruled state in the heart of Europe, with the goal of moving toward a wider caliphate. There is no room whatsoever for Christians in this state. Western countries and their leaders, as well as liberals in general, should stop fooling themselves that the islamists intend otherwise.
How did we (the US) get this Bosnia thing so wrong?
It seems so clear to me: when in doubt, Islam is the bad guy.
Put "Admin Moderator" in the TO field (who you're responding to).
You might ask the admin mods to fix your title: BOSNIA: SERBS DEEM MUSLIM LEADER'S COMMENTS 'IRRESPONSIBLE'
Let's see; who was President when Bosnia flared up, and we chose sides?
.
.
It wasn't W.
.
.
It was that guy before him - Hillary's mealticket - What was his name?
Because of how the system works at this end, it's much better to submit an abuse report, even in cases (such as this) which don't involve abuse.
"How did we (the US) get this Bosnia thing so wrong?"
Because prior to the break-up of Yugoslavia, most of the MSM and Western politicians couldn't even have told you what continent Bosnia was on. By the time Bosnia came on the radar, Slovenia, Bosnia and the Kosovo Albanians had hired high-powered PR firms to make their cases to the world.
James Harff of the PR Firm Ruder Finn did an interview with Jacques Merlino re representing the Bosnian Muslims & others which was pretty astounding. Exceprts from the interview can be found here: http://www.greens.org/s-r/20/20-24.html The PR Firms made "black" seem "white" and vice versa. Before you knew it, one political mouthpiece was bouncing off another and another, telling the same wrong-minded story and making stupid decisions based on lies.
The long & short of it was that we were duped.
I forgot to include Croatia in that group who hired high powered PR firms.
Thank you for teaching me something I'd never figure out on my own! I mean it.
Thank you, didn't know how to call upon you to do it and didn't want to do it wrong. Thanks again.
Ok, let's pack up the Serbian Republic and declare that it has left Bosnia.
