Possible plane crash in Lexington, KY. My brother works security for Lexington UK Hospital and was just called in. No news locally or on major news outlets yet. I didn't want to post anything for fear of being wrong, but he's still waiting for an official call while on stand-by.

Update from WTVQ 36 Lexington:

A plane has crashed near the Blue Grass Airport this morning. No word on details at this time. We are told it was a commercial aircraft. Versailles Road is blocked as emergency vehicles circle around the site. We have live coverage beginning at 7:20am. Stay with Action News 36 for more details.

Not strange to pilots.

Yeah, it's all about money. Ever since American Airlines flight 191, the airlines have bent over backwards to take care of the families of passengers killed in accidents.

The lawyers, especially that b*tch Mary Schiavo, see every accident as a big cash cow. They don't give a damn about the people. Of course Mary Schiavo's agenda is basically the destruction of the U.S. airline industry.

Okay, CBS is already blaming the pilots--so I'm going go with my terrorism theory!

Well, I'm not going to watch coverage on Fox News anymore.

Yea, CNN and MSNBC would never stoop to such lows....

The only way to avoid this would be to dist TV in total and only listen to WWV on the radio. ; )

THAT would be "fair and balanced" to your liking.

Schiavo started out doing a noble thing. Then she got camera-happy and went plain nuts. She wanted to run the FAA.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Scary Mary is still trying to pin Sept. 11th on Boeing because the cockpit doors weren't armored.

When I see MSNBC and CNN do it, I'll turn them off as well.

Your Piper would require 10' width for a comfortable take off...

Maybe for you. I'd like a little more width, but I do have a checklist that tells me to check mag compass with runway heading, including soft fields. Certainly that task is in the checklist of a departing CRJ.

"Didn't Pussy Galore's flying circus stage out of that airport?"

I'm so happy that you asked that question. (Initially I thought you had posted a Katherine Harris photo.) I used to live in Lexington and will always have a fondness for that piece of history.

Is it just my TV or did Fox News Report the pilot HAD to use a secondary runway? Were there squatters camped out at the end of 8-22? Sheesh!

here is absolutely NOTHING to suggest this is terrorism. This plane crashed half a mile from the runway. Take off the tin-foil hats, guys.

In other words, nothing to see here, move on folks. We are in complete control and everybody is perfectly safe.

Are there any photos out yet? I've seen the one at MSNBC but can't really make out what's in the photo.

Fox has been showing an arial photo of the crash site, it appears that the plane is mostly in one piece, and doesn't seem marked by fire on the outside--do y'all think the fire swept through the fuselage and cockpit only on impact? What would cause that to happen?

Certainly that task is in the checklist of a departing CRJ.

Yes, and the CRJ also totes Collins ProLine IV Avionics which I believe incorporates the FMS 6000 system which has user input for minimum runway length required for the aircraft and will not "flight plan" for anything less than the inputted required length.

Dh says this all the time. Personally, I would rather fly coach on any commercial flight with a former military pilot up front than fly first class when a civilian-trained pilot is at the controls. It's a different feeling boarding a plane when one of our former military jet pilot friends is in the cockpit doing his pre-flight.
