It ALSO hit Southeast Louisiana. Very hard.
The levees were not designed for that large of a storm.
They may be calling the storm a Cat III based on the final wind speed, but that was NOT a Cat III storm surge.
Gee, ya THINK!!??
The weather service a couple days ago had Ernesto coming straight for New Orleans in their long range forecast. A co worker was telling me that we were in for it again and New Orleans may be wiped out. I told him sometimes it takes two flushes to get rid of the $&!#.
Nagin got called 36 hours before Hurricane Katrina crashed into the Gulf Coast by Max Mayfield, director of the National Hurricane Center in Florida. Ha was told that Katrina was catastrophic and that he should declare a SOE.
Nagin didn't declare a state of emergency until 12 hours before Katrina slammed ashore. Too late Jake.
That simple fact puts the blame on where it belongs...along with the clueless in over her head governor.
BTW--Where are Nagin's digs these days? Is he living with the po' folks?
