American Hispanics Rally Behind Border Patrol Officers Facing Prison for Protecting their Communities

Washington, D.C.--(HISPANIC PR WIRE)--August 24, 2006--Rampant lawlessness along the U.S.-Mexico border is of great concern to all Americans, but for the people who live in communities along the border, it is a daily threat to their safety and security. For these largely American Hispanic communities, the Border Patrol amounts to an overstressed and outmanned line of protection for communities under siege. In fact, these communities are so overwhelmed by illegal immigrants and the crime that comes with them, that Arizona and New Mexico have been forced to declare states of emergency at critical points over the past few years.

You Don’t Speak for Me! (YDSFM), a national coalition of American Hispanics who favor tighter immigration enforcement, has joined with thousands of other Americans in support of two Border Patrol officers who face as much a 20 years in prison for wounding a Mexican drug smuggler who had assaulted them and then tried to escape. Calling the convictions of Officers Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean, “a gross miscarriage of justice,” YDSFM is joining a national campaign to re-open their cases.

“These two officers have become pawns in a political campaign to make sure the laws against illegal immigration in this country are made as difficult as possible to enforce,” charged retired Col. Al Rodriguez, chairman of YDSFM. “If Officers Ramos and Compean had been serving in any police department in America, instead of the Border Patrol, they would have received medals and had their picture taken with the mayor. Instead, they face a possible 20-year prison sentence for upsetting the political interest groups that want to tie the hands of the people who protect our borders.”

YDSFM is part of a national bipartisan coalition that is seeking a federal investigation into the events that led to the convictions of Ramos and Compean. A web site, http://www.justiceforborderpatrol.com has been established to aid the two officers and their families.

YDSFM is also concerned that the chilling effect that the convictions of Ramos and Compean will have on other Border Patrol officers will further endanger innocent people – many American Hispanics – who live with the daily specter of organized crime syndicates running roughshod over their communities. “The people who live in South Texas have become hostages to criminal organizations that use their communities as a gateway to America,” Rodriguez said. “Unfortunately armed militias effectively taking over control of towns and communities does not happen only in Lebanon. It’s happening right here in the United States and this trial will only embolden the criminal militias that terrorize these border communities.”

American Hispanics, especially those who live near the border, overwhelmingly support efforts to increase law enforcement against coyotes, contends YDSFM. “To many people in South Texas, the Border Patrol is the only thing standing between them and the criminal gangs that run everything from drugs, to guns, to human beings across that border. The people who are out there doing battle with these criminals are heroes who deserve our complete support,” Rodriguez concluded.

It's good to see the Hispanic community support border security issues. It takes the race card away from DemocRATS
who like to try play it.

SEPT 1 -- KFI Live Broadcast w/Special Guest BP Agent Nacho Ramos

Agents Nacho Ramos and Jose Compean risked their lives defending America and stopped a drug smuggler from bringing 743 pounds of narcotics across the border. You'd think they'd have been given a medal, instead an overzealous Assistant U.S. Attorney Debra Kanof rather than bring the drug smuggler to justice, prosecuted these brave agents, and even granted immunity to the drug smuggler in this great miscarriage of justice. You'll learn more about their case during this special live broadcast.

They were accused and found guilty of what you stated. Here's another synopsis as stated in this commentary:

Border officers' case is travesty of justice
http://www.statesmanjournal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060827/OPINION/60825046/1049

U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, a Bush appointee, prosecuted the agents. In March, a jury found them guilty of assault with a dangerous weapon, discharge of a firearm during a violent crime, obstructing justice, lying about the incident and willfully violating Aldrete-Davila's Fourth Amendment right to be free from illegal seizure.

I know. What I said was meant to be humorous, given that even the most assimilated Americans of certain Hispanic descent (it must be the country of Mexico, as a matter of fact) still refer to themselves as Mexicans, as a means of distinguishing themselves from idiotic leftist Chicanos, whom they despise and don't seek any identification with.

All my Mexican-Am friends are MEXICANS because they won't put up with anyone calling them Chicanos and they sure as heck don't like Hispanic or Latino. Therefore, they're MEXICANS!

Friends,

Yesterday, The John and Ken Show announced a special live broadcast with special guests, including our honored guest Border Patrol Agent Ignacio Ramos of the El Paso Border Patrol Sector. This is an exclusive public appearance through Friends of the Border Patrol and the John and Ken Show for Southern California.

On behalf of Agents Ramos, Compean, and their families, I want to take a moment and thank everyone for your support. I also want to invite everyone who is a "friend of the border patrol" to come and meet "Nacho" next Friday, September 1, 2006.

Now is your chance to help the agents fight this terrible injustice. Donations can be made in person to assist the agents as we help them fight to clear their good names and reputations and fight for their freedom, and 100% of your donation can be written off your taxes and it goes directly to assist the agents with their legal fees. Visit FriendsOfTheBorderPatrol.com for information on donations, as featured on the Lou Dobbs and John & Ken Shows & sites.

Bush must act. If he does not, the BP is finished.

Does the GOP run the Executive branch, or not? Does Justice not report to the President? Who does that politically inspired "Homeland Security" agent report to? Is there no accountability?

Yes there is, and I'm going to be the agent of that accountability. I don't think I'm alone. I'll be sitting home on election day, this one, and maybe 2008. The GOP has had it's opportunities, and it's playing politics with National Security, as well as domestic policy.

Bush was bold in 2001 when we needed a bold President. It didn't last very long. After the 2004 election, it was over. Now Bush is nothing more than a far less efficient Nixon. And the GOP Congress??? Absolutely worthless.

You folks have to remember that for at least four of the last six years, the GOP had the number in the House and the Senate to make their imprint on America. We could have had true conservative judges, if Bush would have appointed them, and the GOP had enforced party loyalty. There's a lot that could have been done, e.g. alot committee chairmanships differently, to get by the Democrats stonewalling.

Instead, the GOP has been "standing pat", doing nothing more than they have to, playing ball with corporate special interests, and telling the GOP rank and file (in particular, Christian Conservatives), to shut up and move to the back of the bus.

Yes, the loyal GOPers on this forum will assail my short sightedness, insist that there's nothing worse than a Democrat in the White House, and Democrats running the House and the Senate.

Well, ya know what? I lived through the bad ol' days of Democrat control, and there was very little difference between then and now. I have no more influence on my government than I did when the Democrats ran everything. The country's governmental policies continue to lurch leftward. You'll be rewarded by playing ball with the Democrat left. If you stand up for "right and wrong", for your principles, like these Border Patrol agents did when they tried to enforce the law, you'll get shafted. THAT'S what the GOP means to America today.

Not me. After 32 years, I'm done. I'm out. Bye bye.. GOP. Ya don't need my vote, and I don't need anymore GOP pols in my life.

SFS
