She says odd 'things' occurred after FBI tip

WASHINGTON -- A Virginia woman told police that "things have been happening" since she went to the FBI 17 months ago with a complaint that led to the continuing corruption probe against Rep. William Jefferson, D-New Orleans.
Lori Mody, who wore a hidden microphone to tape conversations with Jefferson, said in her July 24 complaint to the Fairfax County (Va.) Police Department that the toilet in a McLean, Va., home she is getting ready to sell broke between July 21 and July 24, sending water "everywhere."
Although Mody told police the toilet malfunction could just be an accident, perhaps caused by a worker, she decided to file a report with the Fairfax County Police because it was just one of a number of problems she has encountered since she went to the FBI in March 2005. The other incidents aren't spelled out, and Fairfax County Police officials declined to elaborate.
According to the police report, Mody described herself to officers as the woman who worked with the FBI and wore a wire when FBI money was given to Jefferson. The FBI, in documents, said that Mody approached agents nearly a year and a half ago after she had soured on her investment -- encouraged by Jefferson -- in a Kentucky firm seeking to bring high-speed Internet, cable and telephone service to Nigeria and Ghana. Mody and her attorney could not be reached for comment Monday. Jefferson's attorney, Robert Trout, declined to comment.
