Communities Grappling with Rise in Violence

Also, check the crime stats in your city and compare with other towns on this link: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14503476/

....Crowder’s was one of more than a dozen murders in Washington in early July. Police blotters in Seattle, Indianapolis, Minneapolis and other cities paint similarly violent pictures: After a decade of decline, violent crime is on the rise across the U.S. Assault and rape rose 2.5 percent between 2004 and 2005, according to the FBI’s latest report of national crime trends. Murder and robbery are up nearly 5 percent — the sharpest increase since 1991. Medium-sized cities of between 50,000 and 500,000 have been the bloodiest.

So many police chiefs have expressed concern that the Police Executive Research Forum, a Washington-based think tank, is holding a national crime summit Wednesday. Mayors and law enforcement officials from 45 cities — both those hit with a rise in violence and those, like Dallas and Chicago, that have so far escaped an increase, are discussing strategies for reversing the trend.

“We’ve been watching crime decrease or flatten out for the last 10 years,” said Chuck Wexler, executive director of the forum. “But last year we started hearing from police chiefs (about increasing violence) ... enough of them, that we started to wonder, what’s going on?"

It’s no fluke, Wexler and other law enforcement experts say.

“There should be a real sense of concern,” said Seattle police Chief Gil Kerlikowske, whose department is participating in the summit. “This is a wake-up call.”

To what do you attribute this sudden increase in crime across the country?

Illegal immigration?

Increase in gangs?

Increased family tensions?

More kids dropping out of school?

More kids staying in school and being brainwashed? (I'm only half-kidding)

More pornography on the Internet?

Increate in gangs and a suspicion that more gangs are being led by and populated with psychopaths. Dr. Robert Hare estimates that about 1 percent of the population consists of psychopaths but that the majority don't become killers for a variety of reasons. I think gangs may be providing a way for psychopaths to meet, concentrate, and for the dangerous killer psychopaths to push others over the edge into that category. Attacking random strangers for stupid reasons along with the attempted rapes suggest people that aren't right in the head.

Barry Farber put it well decades ago: Povery does not cause crime. Toleration of crime causes crime.

Barry used to be one of my favorite talk show hosts, but he fell of the local broadcasts a few years back. I had the honor of meeting him in Palm Springs, when he appeared at temple. I have a dear Jewish friend, that gave me her tickets, he was too conservative for her. ----- I know, I am working on her<(•¿•)>

Getting close to midterm elections, so the left has to publicize anything they can claim is Bush's fault

It's not cops "being forced to work Homeland Security." Please, like how much do they really do on that? They've been part of that effort for 5 years now but only at this time is violent crime up. The biggest common denominator this article misses is this: Katrina refugees being spread out across the nation. But no, this is the cause of much of this violence that the media dare not speak its name.

Complex problems rarely have only one cause. I'm willing to believe that illegal aliens are part of the problem, as well. I also suspect that they have a secondary effect which is that the lack of enforcement of immigration laws produces a broader disinterest in respect all laws in general.

Interesting reply to that question from a young black woman to our radio show host this morning:

She lays the blame squarely on the liberal policies of the '70s and on up. Too much dependence on the government; too much acceptance of non-family values; too much coddling of criminal behavior.

It's the success of prolife anti-abortion talk. The wrong people are breeding again.
