A new poll released by Survey USA shows US Rep. Katherine Harris with a large lead in the Florida Republican Primary. Harris is leading 45% to 22% over challenger Will McBride in the race to face Democratic senator Bill Nelson. This comes after a surge in support for McBride after a series of controversial comments by Rep. Harris.

As someone who things that Harris probably cannot even come close in the general election, this is probably not the best news.

She's already offering invitations to her primary victory party.

I think she'll be surprising in the general campaign and election.

Go Katherine!

She's unelectable. That's all. Her rhetoric about the whole separation of Church and State business is not going to win over anyone else but real serious Christians. That's a nice chunk of the electorate in Florida, but there's too many Jews and non-evangelicals to give her the win against an incumbent.

Something is not making sense here:

"A new poll released by Survey USA shows US Rep. Katherine Harris with a large lead in the Florida Republican Primary. Harris is leading 45% to 22% over challenger Will McBride in the race to face Democratic senator Bill Nelson."

GOOD! Harris is leading!

"This comes after a surge in support for McBride after a series of controversial comments by Rep. Harris."

A SURGE in SUPPORT of McBride? Controverisal comments made by HARRIS?

If there is a SURGE in support of McBride because of controversial comments by Harris - then WHY is she leading?

What are those "controversial comments"?

I'd be less worried about the Church-State business than about everything else.

Sigh.

No. Not "good Harris is leading." She's not going to win. And what's more dismaying is that Harris is still winning by a large margine EVEN AFTER making crazy comments to the Baptists. McBride's support has actually surged but unfortunately it has only gotten him to 22%.

As far as Cantwell v. McGavick...Survey USA, I find, it a pretty good poll. I can't tell you anything about the Washington race but as far as Florida goes this poll is prolly spot on.

And that's nothing to celebrate.

There's another poll from 8/24 also by Survey USA that puts McBride at 15%. A 7% jump in six days is a surge in my book. The problem is that it isn't taking many votes from Harris.

You think she'll come back from 20-30 points down and defeat Bill Nelson?

That's possible.

It's also possible that Elvis Presley will announce he's still alive and holds a free concert at the Liberty Bowl next month.

Dead woman walking! That's what Harris' campaign has turned into.

Good! You should vote for her! If I lived in Florida and my choice was her or Bill Nelson, I'd vote for her too.

But she's still a dead woman walking.

The Jews vote Democrat anyway. For almost everybody else, it's not a make-or-break issue. The only folks who would be offended enough to vote against her on church-state grounds are people who would never would have voted Repulican anyways. That's why Reagan won again and again, even though people like you warned that his pro-life stance would alienate "moderates."

She reminds me of the golfer Chris Dimarco.
He keeps playing like his very life depends on it until the very last hole. Sometimes he wins and often he doesn't but he never gives up.

Welcome to FR, newbie.

Here in Florida, we are ready, willing, and able to GOTV for Katherine Harris to defeat Bill Nelson.
