CROCODILE Hunter Steve Irwin was a typical Australian larrikin who brought joy to millions of people around the world, Prime Minister John Howard said today.

Mr Irwin, 44, died while filming a documentary in far north Queensland.

The Australia Zoo owner and international television star was killed by a stingray barb that pierced his chest while he was diving off Port Douglas.

Steve Irwin was a strong supporter of Prime Minister Howard and was an honoured guest when the PM held a BBQ for President Bush on his last visit.

He will be missed on many counts.

His wife was raised here in Oregon and they visited from time to time.

Maybe someone can help you out as I see how many thread you are posting on the topic.

It would be nice to have a thread with all the links in the beginning of the thread as I have seen on other threads.

Hope someone can help you organize that so it is all available on one thread. Good Luck, Prayers Up.

I just saw John Howard speaking about Steve Irwin on the TV news. He was red-eyed and close to tears. I've never seen him so upset.

It shocked the heck out of me. I was getting ready to go to bed when I saw this on FR. After hearing something like this, it jolts you. Now I am wide awake.

I've been a fan of his since he first began doing television shows. He was one of a kind.

It figures it would be something like a stingray - typically non-fatal - that would get him. As many times as he's put himself in harms way, I figured it would have been an allergic reaction to a butterfly bite or something like that.

He'll be missed - I love watching his shows with my daughter. It's been a tradition with us for several years now.

It's amazing how the death of someone famous can break hearts all over the world. I am so very sad about this.

Steve Irwin was a strong supporter of Prime Minister Howard and was an honoured guest when the PM held a BBQ for President Bush on his last visit.

Al Jazeera reports that the Stingray was a Muslim, so Irwin's tacit support for the War in Iraq may have been to blame for this underwater jihad.

I may upset a few Brits....but I think because of the richness of his life and his contributions...he lived bigger in life than Princess Di...and I can sadly imagine the funeral of Steve within the animal world...with countless creatures lining up to show respect to their version of "Noah". He lived as rich a life as a man could dream of...and when you use the word FEARLESS...there is no other man more befitting of the term than him.

And this guy had fans everywhere. I mean some people polarize you or alienate you some way or another, but not him. Even if I wasn't into the animal/nature aspect of the show, I'd admired his raw courage and guts to do what he did. An amazing guy and an amazing career. His loss will be felt everywhere.

Irwin was a tremendous unofficial ambassador for Australia.

The world is a little darker with the loss of the joyful sense of wonder he brought to millions.

FRiends, if you check out Yahoo, you'll see so much venom against Steve Irwin. Why? What did he do to piss off liberals and so-called conservatives? My family and I just love the guy. I can't understand the hate against him.
