Both children and adults learned so much about the animal world through Steve Irwin. Mr Irwin was wonderful teacher and patriot. Prayers for Mrs Irwin and the entire family.

Yes indeed, he brought joy to so many. Can you think of others who deserved to die instead of him? I can.

Aussie, I am so sorry for the lost of one of your native sons. He was a treasure.

They just showed a clip of him and Brian Kilmead from Fox and FRiends.

Steve was wrestling a toy stuffed alligator and before the segment was over both of them were on the floor of the studio wrestling. They looked like two kids playing on the living room floor.

That is the way I want to remember him, with laughter.

This is a sad day. Steve Irwin was the last of the great adventurers and he will be missed.

Thought you might like to know how The Today Show is handling this news. Next hour, they will replay Matt Lauer's interview with Mr. Irwin, wherein Matt takes Steve to task for the crocodile/Bob incident. Clueless, tasteless, and completely unnecessary at this time. Yet one more reason they are despised.

Steve Irwin was a strong supporter of Prime Minister Howard and was an honoured guest when the PM held a BBQ for President Bush on his last visit.

He was a favorite over at Fox and FRiends too.

As I recall one of his video was instructing US Rangers in the dangers of the animals in certain regions of the world.

Fox and FRiends played the segment of Brian and Steve wrestling toy stuff animals. I remember seeing it live, time did not dampen the humor of the moment.

He will be missed greatly. I think some of the stuff he did was crazy but he loved his work and he was too young to go. Prayers for his wife and family.

FRiends, if you check out Yahoo, you'll see so much venom against Steve Irwin. Why? What did he do to [anger] liberals and so-called conservatives? My family and I just love the guy. I can't understand the hate against him.
I suspect the answer may lie in Aussie Dasher's reply #1:
"Steve Irwin was a strong supporter of Prime Minister Howard . . ."

I don't know, Aussie. Your guess is as good as mine, but I find it disgraceful. Matt Lauer isn't fit to wipe Steve Irwin's boots, yet, here he is, lecturing to him. It's as if the MSM MUST be part of everything happening in the world, no matter how ridiculous, callous, or reprehensible they behave. No one can just *report* the news anymore.

Little wonder they are held in such contempt!

You know why he is hated by the left? Because he was a courageous, enthusiastic rugged individualist who found fulfillment in pushing himself to ever greater threshholds of experience. A liberal proclaims his bravado on a bumper sticker or on a crude sign at a gathering of his fellow sheep.

I never knew he was such a big Howard supporter, or anything about his politics whatsoever. If he'd been a leftie, he'd still have been a great and inspiring guy to me. But learning that about him makes me an even bigger fan, especially when one considers how rare such a stance is for guys of his fame and celebrity.

How many people did Irwin entertain and teach? What a great, kick ass guy. May God bless his family.

Damn it's hard to look at pictures of him without tears welling up.

You were an absolute bloody gem Steve!

You got that right. He seemed like he was probably a great got off the camera as well. He was so passionate about his animals that he never let fame and fortune go to his head. The world needs more folks like him.
