Conrad Burns Re-Election Vanity Thread.

Because Conrad Burns has been a reliable Conservative in the Senate and more attention needs to be focused on saving this Senate seat.

Burns' ratings:

NARAL: 0%
National Right to Life Committee 100%
American Civil Liberties Union: 0%
U.S. Chamber of Commerce: 94%
National Education Association: 0%
League of Conservation Voters: 5%
Christian Coalition: 100%
Cato Institute: 70%
National Rifle Association: A
American Public Health Association: 10%
American Land Rights Association: 100%
AFL-CIO: 29%

Rick Santorum is a hero of mine, and deserves the attention he's getting from Freepers and Conservative blogs. But let's not overlook the less-often heard Conservative Senator from Montana. His seat counts JUST as much in the Senate, even though his state is "smaller." He is a Conservative Senator who deserves more attention and who needs to be defended.

Props for Conrad Burns, and hopes that he can pull off this tight race where he seems to be slightly behind. Montana is too Conservative for John Tester.

Know Conrad well, just met him aug 31 at his campaign stop here in Kalispell, MT. His personal attorney is my HS drinking buddy. Unsolicited advise : A choice between a NY liberal(schumer's puppet)and a native Montanan; that's all you need to say. No radio ads/lists of accomplishments, just focus on that question : out-of-state liberal or in-state conservative. The Rehberg/lundeen race is no contest, so Denny may help Conrad there with turnout. My issue w/Conrad is over coal/MHD. My solution is 4 film belts that protect the throat walls from getting coated with coal slag, but the guys in Butte are doing mach 2 coal plasma blow thru, a much more EXPENSIVE, and thus money-milking way, to do it. Sigh, it's always : GET THE MONEY, isn't it?

Sadly, yes. Usually new technology does have to be forced upon some forms of labor. This is probably one of those cases. Familiarity seems to always trump the new idea when you ask the labor force, even when the old way costs more. People don't like a lot of change at work, whatever the job.

Anyhow, what's your take on the ground there? Any chance Burns keeps this seat?

I worry because the polls in the mountain states always seem to be remarkably more accurate (less population), and Burns seems consistently about 3 points behind right now.

I'd hate to see Burns retired right now.

In a way it's war weariness, we've been in iraq 4+ years now and it's looking more and more like a vietnam quagmire, the general's assurances of iraqi forces taking over control sounds identical to Westmoreland's assurances of the south vietnamese taking control 35 years ago. We know what happened there. Plus we're throwing up to a TRILLION dollars into rebuilding iraq with little to show for it, people are asking : what's the point? The other day there was a plane flying around with a banner : STOP THE WAR.....So, it's RESULTS that count, not rhetoric, and our good man Conrad Burns is catching the flak for it. It's not his or Bush's fault, the iraqi people themselves are the failures here, they just simply can't get their act together.....As to the upcoming election, 2 years ago the dems split the MT house(50-50)and won the senate majority, plus the governorship(BS is his initials - clinton lite if you will). But I think Conrad is making a mistake listing his accomplishments in his radio ads. I TOLD him : focus, crystallize this simple question over and over(a million times if necessary)in people's minds : liberal or conservative? Do you want a NY liberal puppet(schumer's toy)or a true Montana conservative? Liberals from out of state will jerk tester any way they want, Conrad is a rock solid conservative, no wishy-washy with him. It all comes down to turnout and Montana is fundamentally a conservative state.......A little story : missoula is the liberal snake pit of Montana. Twas at Judy Martz's election night in Butte 6 years ago. We were running behind in the early returns. In walking by her I asked : Judy, are we going to lose this one? Oh no she said, that's just missoula, the good precincts are still to come....Again, it all comes down to turnout. The good people of Montana aren't as bib-overalls/farmer-stupid as the elitist-liberals think, we can see thru them easily enough. So have a little bit of faith in Montanans, ok? Out here REALITY rules, not big city fantasies.

It's also good to retain this one time Marine officer for his military experience. I've read that NO member of the Tester family has served his country in uniform. Have you heard this?

On the other hand, Conrad needs to keep his foot out of his mouth and you folks ought to be looking to place somebody in a position to take out Baucus.
