Croc Hunter Politics (Steve Irwin Supported John Howard)

Croc Hunter's Politics [Jonah Goldberg]

From a reader:

Irwin never talked much about politics. It wasn’t his thing – obviously. But, when he did, he proudly touted his conservative philosophies and was a staunch support of PM John Howard’s. He was a guest on Laura Ingraham’s radio show several years back and I was pretty shocked to learn of his politics.

He was, of course, a conservationist and a lover of animals. But he never struck me as a PETA type – which, silly me, I assumed he would’ve been. Hopefully, Laura will chime in with her own reminiscing of Irwin’s appearance on her show.

He was a big fan of the United States military, too.

He did a great episode on snakes a few years back. The whole thing was shot at Eglin AFB in Florida and he showed nothing but respect for the soldiers and airmen who trained and worked there.

Nah, all hunters are conservationist.

Indeed, duck hunters have probably protected more wildlife habitat than any hippee tree hugger group.

Way cool.

One day I answered my doorbell and it was a representative of a group (I forget who it was) surveying about drilling in Alaska and about the republicans and President Bush wanting to destroy the enviroment. I guess he thought he had a sympathetic ear because I had a John Denver t-shirt on at the time lol! He was surprised when I told him I voted and supported Bush.

I like the term conservative conservationist! We need to say that more often!

Not rare at all.

ALMOST ALL hunters are conservationists(their tax dollars on ammo and equipment support all the wildlife management and restoration efforts in this country) and CONSERVATIVE.

The liberal PETA, Humane Society of America, and Sierra Club types raise collectively billions annually and don't spay, neuter, house, or feed aniomals. They do nothing to purchase habitat (like hunter's dollars do) and support efforts that would be totally devastating to wildlife.

For instance, there are endangered songbirds, grouse (disappearing rapidly), etc., that depend on successional growth forests -- in other words, LOGGING. But most liberals think cutting a tree will cause the end of the world.

But most of these same liberals live in cities, have no idea what the natural world is like. They drive their SUVs (while cursing big oil), wear their fashionable Orvis and Eddie Bauer clothing, and send their money to the Sierra Club, HSUS, etc. They are clueless about wildlife conservation.

It is not mutually exclusive to be a conservationist and a conservative... you can be an animal lover and not be a PETA type. You can be pro-animal without being virulently anti-human and anti-business.
