Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
I was traumatized by an uncle that said he "just wants to wiggle the tooth"....and when I let him...he jerked it out!!
It didn't hurt, because like your daughter's, it was almost out...but, I never trusted ANYONE, even a dentist to put his hand in my mouth for YEARS after that...LOL
Just a tip of what NOT to do.
I have this bad feeling McCain is gonna try and pull one over on us
I just don't trust McCain
YES...but I still wish it wouldn't pass.
I have nothing against President Bush...I am a Bushbot..as you guys know...but, not at the expense of our country's best interest...and McCain's ego.
Can you tell me, either of you.....whether there is more of what BUSH wants in here, or the wussy triplets, McCain, Graham, and Warner??
I've read many stories on who won and who lost in the mccain/graham/warner versus bush battle on this bill. But, I would guess that Bush won, even though both sides gave a little. Remember, the dems were using McCain for their cover and now they are completely against the bill. I would guess the bill will pass on a party-line vote, with a few cross-overs (guess Nelson of FL will vote yes, as one example). In the end, I don't believe that BUsh would have compromised his ability to get whatever info he needs, however he deems necessary. I call it a Bush win, just because it suits me to do so!! :-)
Pretty clearly, none of us trust McCain at all, and rightly so. I think it's an unsatisfactory compromise, but if the President thinks the program can go forward under it, I wouldn't know what to do but just get on with it. I'm not happy either, Mo.
Neilson of FL voted aye for McCain's bill ??
He's up for reelection. So did Menendez.
65-34 .. bill passes
71 - 28 .. passes
Thanks for the updates....I didn't hear the number counts...
The cloture vote passed for the fence bill....now we have to make sure that actual bill passes.
Laverne...I think you are right about this having to be MORE of a Bush bill than a McCain one...because Levin, Rockefeller and Kennedy, AND Specter were UNhappy. LOL
off topic
I didn't know this part about Dodd's father *L*
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_J._Dodd
Dodd was elected as a Democrat to the House of Representatives in 1952, and served two terms. He lost a Senate election in 1956 to Prescott S. Bush, but was elected in 1958 to Connecticut's other Senate seat and then re-elected in 1964.
and gee .. so nice of them to put a drunk behind a wheel of a car
Dodd was known to have a very serious problem with alcohol. In an infamous 1965 incident that took place on Capitol Hill, Dodd was reported to be so inebriated that he needed the help of two secretaries to reach his car
Well..that certainly would explain DODD's hate of Bush...and I am sure he is very instrumental in spreading the hate to his fellow Senators...BEFORE Bush ever actually took office..
BTW...things are kinda HEATED in the House tonight..they are debating the NSA wiretapping bill....
Thanks .. just put it on
The Capitol notes that they flash on the bottom of the screen on C-span 1...flashed that President Bush's Detainee bill passed today....LOL
Didn't say a word about McCain, Graham, OR Warner...
CAAB up in the Senate
I don't think I like Heather Wilson from the House
BTW .. my head is spinning trying to keep up with this all *L*
Ok .. I think I changed my mind on Heather Wilson
She wants the wiretap NOW!
Pelosi's jacket is hurting my eyes and her speech is giving me a headace
