Governor Barkley? Hall of Fame inductee doesn't see why not

PHOENIX -- Charles Barkley insists he's serious about running for governor of Alabama, but he's got to move back there first.

"I can't run until 2014," he said. "I have to live there for seven years, so I'm looking for a house there as we speak."

And he said he is an independent, not a Democrat as previously reported.

"The Republicans are full of it," Barkley said. "The Democrats are a little less full of it."

Asked if he had ever been in the governor's office in Montgomery, Barkley said no.

"They don't let many black people in the governor's mansion in Alabama," he said, "unless they're cleaning."

And he plays an embarrasing round of golf, to boot.

Only point in his favor lately: he is generous to charities, even when he can't play the game he's helping to promote.

How much could he tell that we don't already know? He's an idiot.

Because you're a low-life dumb-f$ck, Charles. You and Shaq are neck-and-neck in the layup to the low-life basket. That's why not. Take a clue from Michael Jordan or Kevin Garnett and develop a little class, a-hole.

Unfortunately, Rush put him on the cover of the Limbaugh report many years ago. Chuck was handed the ball and dropped it.

Here's the link from open secrets. I also saw him in '04 on TV at an Edwards Rally:

Yes, doesn't John-Boy commute to his job at the UNC "Center for Poverty" from his hundred acre ranch in Chapel Hill. Why do him and two-time loser Irksome Bowels get rewarded with plum college jobs on our nickel?

Anyway, back to Sir Charles, I always cringed when he was a GOP'er when he'd say stuff like "they changed Augusta to keep Tiger from winning because he's black". He's no loss to our side.

Why do you have to rip Shaq... all the guy wanted to do was get in a few movies, win a few titles and become a cop when he retires.

Last I checked KG didn't win anything.

I wonder if Charles has SPIT on any little girls lately?

He did so during a game in Philly when harassed by her father, about 7 or 8 years ago!

Sir Charles couldn't win a ring. Don't know why he thinks he can win the governorship.

KG was MVP in '04, but I'll nevertheless retract what I said about Shaq, as I hate him solely for personal reasons (playoffs "sour grapes" being chief among them). What I said about Charlie stands, though.

Rush's on-air gushing over Charlie greatly decreased my esteem for Rush. I know Charlie thought he was a Republican back then, but he was still an idiot of the lowest order.

"1) He Really Wasn't a Role Model - Although many fans believed Barkley's candor made him one of the NBA's most lovable players, his behavior occasionally backed up his claims, like in a game in the 1991-92 season where he (intending to spit on a fan irritating him) accidentally spat on a 9-year old girl in Philadelphia, and an incident in Orlando in which he threw a man through a window."

This is great! If he runs as an independent, he further splits the Democrat vote. I'm all in favor of him running.
