(CNN) -- Gasoline prices plunged more than 21 cents a gallon over the past two weeks to a national average of $2.66 amid an abundant supply of fuel at service stations, a national survey said Sunday.
Lower demand for gas with the end of the summer driving season and a drop in crude oil prices combined to send prices downward across the United States, according to Trilby Lundberg, publisher of the "Lundberg Survey."

Lundberg, whose survey tallies prices every two to three weeks at about 5,000 gas stations in all 50 states, said gas prices were "punctured."
The average price of a gallon of gas has fallen nearly 37 cents a gallon in the last four weeks, according to the Lundberg Survey taken on Sept. 8.

It is all Presidents Bushs
fault.....
It's funny, a lot of liberals believe that there is a conspiracy by the oil companies to lower gas prices before the election and then jack them up right after. Shows the igonorance of supply/demand economics.
$2.91 on Cape Cod this weekend.
$2.37 distant Atlanta suburbs
Hey, Howie Dean, I paid $2.41 a gallon for high test in Gainesville, VA this past Saturday!

Use an electric fuel pump and rig it up to plug in the cigarette lighter.
Remember the gas tank locks back in '78? I'll take high prices over gas lines any day.
Bush's fault.
$2.51 in York-Lancaster, PA area, for Unleaded Regular.
Gas prices making seemingly unexplainable large changes in price? I demand an investigation! We must levy a windfall profit tax on the consumer because of the ammount of money they're making off of these lower prices!
Thank your local envirowackos for those wonderful boutique blends you're forced to burn up their in liberal-land.
It's all about supply and demand ...
$2.06 in Rootstown, OH about 15 miles east of here.
I've seen $2.19 here in Akron.
And from the media...crickets.
$2.19/9 in Springfield, MO over the weekend.
They'll just think of some excuse to re-play their reports about $4.00 gas from right after Katrina.
Rush mentioned that the biggest issue for the election being named most by voters is the economy, mostly because of the price of gas. Forgetting that the price of gas is entirely separate by the strong performance of the economy we've seen, pollsters apparently indicate voter anger over the economy is subsiding with gas prices. Pray for no hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico and no supply disruptions from the Middle East and the GOP may yet survive this election thanks to pump prices declining. I said all along the Dems. peaked too fast. Favorable political winds rarely last more than 12 months it seems. The Dems. have been running on that for 13 months now. I doubt barring any unforseen disaster they'll be able to get another 2 months out of the winds that were at their backs.
Or they'll focus on whatever niggling negative they can dig up for the economy. I'm sure they'll find people whining over the drop in the values of their home, forgetting those same home values probably doubled for the same people in the last 10 years even if they've lost $10-15K in home value in the last 6 months.
$2.06?
I think that's the best price in the nation!
ya might want to post it on http://www.gasbuddy.com
I'll say one thing about Ohio. Our taxes aren't great, and the utilities can be a bit high, but when it comes to gas and housing, it's CHEAP to live here.
I paid $2.08 at the Costco near the Tri-County mall in Springdale, Ohio (Cincy suburb) on Saturday to fill my wife's car. I paid $2.13 at a United Dairy Farmers (UDF) in West Chester, Ohio for my car on Sunday.
It's still over $3.00 in the Pacific Northwest. I filled up last Friday in ID at $2.94.
High tax green States are leading in gasoline pricing.
Go pumping across State/City lines.
High prices are fodder to lessen Al Gore's global warming fears.
Besides, there's got to be collusion as these bad bad oil companies react immediately by lowering pump pricing also right after oil market prices keep dipping.
Democrats "are concerned" there's manipulation to influence voters so close to an election.
Congressional hearings will follow should there be....whatever there is or happens.
Mike, I don't know where in Southern Cali you live but ya might want to check out http://www.gasbuddy.com LOL
Yep, I go down to Lewiston ID for fuel, I live 20 minutes away...
The whole Palouse area is nuts when it comes to fuel and retail, they oppose everything.... I'll spend my money elswhere.
< Bush Derangement off >
You said it, compared to the East or West coasts, we have it cheap!
I still have a heart attack looking at real estate prices on the coasts.
"...283.9 Reno..."
That is some EXPENSIVE gas!
Well, surely there is somebody who bought an overpriced house six months ago, figuring that the Greater Fool would be along soon to buy it from him at a higher price, who is now in big trouble since the Greater Fool seems to be taking the day off.
But if people bought real estate as a speculative investment, they should have realized that speculative investments carry risk. If they bought the house to live in, they should continue to live in it, and the vast majority will get their equity plus a profit out of it once the market recovers.
Buck fifty on election day, bookit. Unless we bomb the hell out of Iran.
I filled up at Paul's in Kuna for $2.96 the last time I did so. Wonder why it's taking so long for it to come down here?
You mean like in New York, where people pay $800,000 for a broom closet and talk about what a deal it was?
