Dozens of people gathered Sunday in Downtown Louisville to show their patriotism and to support the troops. They also remembered the victims of 9/11.

A local boy scout troop helped unfold a massive flag to carry through Downtown Louisville. After the Pledge of Allegiance, people of all ages, participated in the America Supports You Freedom Walk. This is the first time Louisville has participated in the nationwide walk...

Make sure you check out FReeper trooprally's Consolodated Freedom Walk 2006 Thread!!!

Yesterday my family joined about 200 other Patriots at Waterfront Park for Louisville's first Freedom Walk to honor our military and remember Sept. 11th 2001. Skies were mostly cloudy and the air was quite muggy, but I heard no one complain and everyone who started completed the walk through downtown Louisville.

My hat's off to the event's organizer Mr. Wayne Hettinger of Visual Productions Inc. They produce the annual Thunder Over Louisville airshow and fireworks display that kicks off the Kentucky Derby Festival. He brought out the huge American Flag that is flown over the Ohio River before Thunder and put this event together with very little publicity from the local media. Thank you Wayne!

Alright, alright!! Here's a few PICS! You can see these and the rest of them at my Photobucket Louisville Freedom Walk 2006 album.

The walkers start to gather

Semper Fi!!!

Lots of cute kids

This next pic is a group of 35 family and friends of Iraq war vet SPC Michael Hayes of the 1st Armored Div. He was wounded in an IED attack in Ramadi and is recuperating at the Brooke Army Mecical Center at Ft. Sam Houston in Texas. His mother gathered the family and flew out to do this walk in honor of her son. They wore a list on the back of their shirts with the names of the other members of his unit who were killed in the ambush. On that list is SGT Marquess Quick, SPC Hayes' mentor. One of the group told me that shortly after SPC Hayes was wounded, SGT Quick threw himself on a grenade and took the full force of the blast to save other soldiers nearby.

It is in honor of these American Heroes and all who have gone before them that we walked yesterday.

The family and friends of SPC Michael Hayes

Also present for the walk were several crew members of the Trident missile submarine USS Kentucky (SSBN 737)

This pic is a great overhead shot of the walkers as they cross under the overpass seperating the two buidings of the Galt House Hotel.
That American Flag is 30' X 50'!!!

A great turnout of Patriots!

Almost back at Waterfront Park

At the end of the Freedom Walk, the Cub Scouts of Pack #333 folded the flag and posed for pictures.
Everyone was hot and tired but we were proud of those boys.
They carried that big flag for 1.5 miles!

I am IMPRESSED!!! You grow some hardy scouts in Louisville.

I was wondering who was wearing the white t-shirts. I looked at the early link before reading the thread.

At least you got some media coverage. In D.C. we got nothing, but they did cover the different site ceremonies.

I bet next year you have 3 times the crowd.
