Polls find Perry loss isn't out of the question

AUSTIN — Two polls released Monday found Gov. Rick Perry is vulnerable to defeat, but his campaign is questioning the surveys' accuracy.

Conventional wisdom in the governor's race has been that none of the governor's four opponents would have a chance to beat him if he gets more than 35 percent of the vote on Nov. 7. There is no runoff in the general election, so the top vote-getter wins.

Perry has hovered between 35 percent and 41 percent in public polls for months. But he has fallen into the defeatable zone in polls done by Rasmussen Reports and the Wall Street Journal/Zogby Online.

The Rasmussen poll put Perry's re-election support at 33 percent, and the Zogby poll had his support at 31 percent.

"It's hard to see him losing above 37 percent, but below 35 percent, somebody might get that much out of the remaining 65 percent of the vote," said University of Houston pollster Richard Murray, a Democrat.

But Perry spokesman Robert Black said the polls paid for by news media companies should not be trusted because their methodology is not sound political science.

Phony tax reform is going to sink him, not because the Rats aren't going to vote for him. But because smart Conservatives see right thru the scam. They are going to send a message to the next GOP candidate for Governor not to pull that charade on them

If a protest vote is what you want, the weak TX governor is a fat target. Just don't aim for the hair, that hair helmet will deflect anything short of a howitzer.

I believe Texans are smarter than voting for some nut just to send the GOP a message. We are not going to ruing our state for stupid reasons by voting for a stupid Kinky.

As another Freeper put it recently, "Perry is a dumbass but he's our dumbass".

I think the Trans-Texas Corridor property theft Perry supports is outrageous but who else is there to vote for? Besides, look at that hair! That's politician power hair! You can;t beat hair like that! /sarcasm off on the last part

I don't think it's that as much as the fraccas over the toll roads. Plus, it was utterly ooh-tray to call that reported a mofo.

GB41 lost not because of Periot, but because he could not prove to enough people he was worthy of their support. He lost period (personal responciblity it is a conservative value, or was.)

I must assume that if Bighair gets above 38% it will be considered a landslide victory and a mandate...

In a state like TX where a sitting republican governor who si a personal friend of GWB's can not get much more then 40% on a good day says alot.

The so-called tax reform is the biggest issue and it may well come back to bite him in the butt. However, the toll-road fiasco will only be one step behind.

The toll road and the huge tax increase are neck and neck with me. Either one would be enough for me to withhold my vote.
