Sen. Feingold faults Bush's war language

By FREDERIC J. FROMMER, Associated Press Writer 28 minutes ago

Democratic Sen. Russ Feingold (news, bio, voting record) called on President Bush to refrain from using the phrase "Islamic fascists," saying it was offensive to Muslims and has nothing to do with global terrorists fighting the United States.

"We must avoid using misleading and offensive terms that link Islam with those who subvert this great religion or who distort its teachings to justify terrorist activities," Feingold said Tuesday in a speech to the Arab American Institute on Capitol Hill.

The Wisconsin senator, a potential 2008 presidential candidate, said the label "Islamic fascists" makes no sense and doesn't help the U.S. effort to combat terrorism.

"Fascist ideology doesn't have anything to do with the way global terrorist networks think or operate, and it doesn't have anything to do with the overwhelming majority of Muslims around the world who practice the peaceful teachings of Islam," Feingold said.

In seeking to explain the term, the White House referred to comments made last week by homeland security adviser Fran Townsend.

Yeah, CAIR makes quasi-condemnations and then tells us Hezbollah is a social organization!

Nice try, though.

Let's see. The dictionary description of a fascist is

1. a person who believes in or sympathizes with fascism.
2. (often initial capital letter) a member of a fascist movement or party.
3. a person who is dictatorial or has extreme right-wing views.
–adjective

Yup, sounds to me like the bastards who want to kill us. You would think someone who wants to become President would be smart enough to understand simple definitions.

Oops, I forgot, the good Senator is a Democrat. I apologize. It was never my intention to make fun of the mentally ill.

"Have them move to Madison to mingle with the pinkos there."

Hi, Toddlin'!

Sadly, I see women in Burkas at least once a week in my travels around Madistan, usually with two or more children in tow.

They're becoming more plentiful in this area than Norwegian Bachelor Farmers. :(

Dems are "stuck on stupid"

Stuck on? It takes an act of congress for them to make it UP to stupid. The average Dim is one neuron above brain dead.

One tired, badly abused and lonely neuron...

You're really reaching. If you consider classifying such things as Iraqi contacts, names of CIA officials, US operations in Iraq and more to be "silencing free speech", I would not care to argue with you.

Language is important in this case. You can't defeat an unidentified threat. It is important, unfortunately to stress what these people are and what they believe because the majority of people here in the US are more concerned about seeing pics of Tom Cruise's love child and won't take the time to find out who is trying to kill them. You got that point right. He won't say the enemy is Islam because I think he really believes there is a difference between the fascists in Islam and the regular mainstream muslim. He is correctly identifying them in terms of the real danger they pose to the world, to a degree (in his mind) thier religion but mostly thier political aspirations of a world regime which most closely represents a fascist regime. Also, just in case you didn't realize it he isn't up for re-election in '06. The Pubes in Congress can speak for themselves on who the enemy is.

There once was a young person named Little Red Riding Hood who lived on the edge of a large forest full of endangered owls and rare plants that would probably provide a cure for cancer if only someone took the time the mean old rotten Republicans didn't cut taxes on the wealthy and block the pure, caring, smart Democrats from funding study of them.

convincing the general public in the Muslim World to get off it's ass and turn in their bloodthirsty neighbors.

I'm not sure where you get the 50% of Americans who don't care number but there is another number that should mean something to you. Over 70% of arabs polled in the middle east in multiple countries share the same beliefs that Al Qaeda and the other islamic fascists hold. Death to Israel and the US, a world Caliphate ruled under Sharia law. So this whole silly notion of "winning the hearts and minds" of the people over there is a wasted effort, at best. Look at who the Palestinians elected, thier choice was a corrupt greedy organization or a terrorist organization based on Islamic fundamentalism. This is apparently the cream that rises to the top of middle east society. They chose the terrorists. The only way we'll win thier favor is to die or convert. I don't care about them and what they think, they prefer to live in filth and squalor and bomb each others' schools and mosques.

NEWSFLASH: The threat has been identified. It was identified before Bush took office. It was ignored for about 9 months after Bush took office, but events seem to have convinced him the matter deserved more serious attention.

It was ignored for about 30 years before that, in large part because nobody was willing to step up and name the threat and speak openly about it. It was not clearly identified, you are wrong in this point.

If the term Islamic fascists is so offensive then that is a huge clue as to the true nature of those offended by the name. It hits too close to home. Like it or not the world's major problems at this point are bred within the Islamic religion. If there was a problem with a large group of Christian terrorists you can bet most Christians would ostracize and denounce them and people wouldn't be crying about the label of Christian terrorist or what ever, unless that title described them also. Islam embraces and hides the terrorists largely.

Democratic Sen. Russ Feingold (news, bio, voting record No need to look it up; he is always the oddball in the 98-1 votes.) called on President Bush to refrain from using the phrase "Islamic fascists," saying it was offensive to Muslims and has nothing to do with global terrorists fighting the United States.

Oh, wonderful! He's channeling sKerry's REALLY COOL GLOBAL FRIENDSHIPS WITH ALL THE RIGHT HEADS OF STATE® list to talk to global terrorists. Tell me again, Russ, why/how they will hate us LESS if we DON'T "offend" them in this way? Now, if the President would have said something really bad about putting panties on their heads....

"We must avoid using misleading and offensive terms that link Islam with those who subvert this great religion or who distort its teachings to justify terrorist activities...."

Uunnnnnngh! What is misleading? The terrorists all seem to be Islamic. I think "fascist" narrows that bunch down to the jihadists, if that's what you're worried about.

(Although I am also of the school that is really upset about the silence of the "moderates" or the "good Muslims." They should be chastised for not being more supportive and vocal around the world AND ESPECIALLY in the States.)

And Russ? Still listening? Islamic Fascists HATE YOU ANYWAY! See, if we sent a planeload just FULL of diversity they'd BEHEAD ALL OF THEM! They don't care what your voting record is! They don't care if you oppose the strong party and that you are petty, vindictive, impotent (your SCOTUS questioning was self-centered, self-serving, amateurish, and disgraceful). Oh, and that you are the git that treats President Bush like you have some kind of moral superiority, "Contradiction is just the automatic gainsaying of any statement the other person makes."

....Feingold said Tuesday in a speech to the Arab American Institute on Capitol Hill.

Oh, I get it! How very silly of me! You were just PANDERING! Word to the wise, Rusty: You're JEWISH! These idjits are not going to vote for you NO MATTER WHAT!

Unless you were gonna do an X42 move and you would open the door to the tech store for campaign contributions....

Psychological research using rats which are supposed to emulate human social patterns showed that cramming to many rats together in a area created unsocial rats exhibiting deviant behavior. So cramming all the DemoRats together would only make them worse. What they need is a good exterminator, but then Tom Delay was overwhelmed by rats wasn't he. Oh well.
