Getting Desperate, Bush Plays The Terror Card
In a way, you cant blame him. He cant defend his record on the economy, health care, immigration or Social Security. He certainly cant defend the war in Iraq. Theres only one way George Bush and Republicans can possibly win in November and thats to scare the hell out of the American people.
So its no surprise that President Bush gave four speeches in one week, all trying to tie an unpopular war in Iraq to a still-popular (barely) war on terror. If you believe George Bush and fewer and fewer Americans do the war in Iraq is directly linked to Sept. 11; Iraq is the frontline in the war on terror; and, by fighting terrorists in Iraq, we are saving ourselves the headache of having to fight them in downtown Des Moines, Dallas or Seattle. And, by the way, were not torturing prisoners, either.
Nonsense. Bushs attempt to equate the war in Iraq with the war on terror worked in 2004, but its not going to work in 2006. Why? Because the American people are smarter. As any thinking person now knows and any thinking person not on the Bush payroll would admit that Iraq had nothing to do with Sept. 11. There was no al-Qaida presence in Iraq. The terrorist organization received no weapons, cash or logistical support from Iraq. And Saddam Hussein was no ally of Osama bin Laden. The road from Ground Zero to Afghanistan was a righteous straight line. The road from Afghanistan to Iraq remains a tragic, and unnecessary, detour.
Nor does the continuing violence in Iraq have anything to do with the war on terror. Whos getting killed there today? Shiites and Sunnis, victims of sectarian violence in Iraqs open civil warfare. And American troops, caught in the crossfire, where they dont belong and should not be forced to stay.
Theres only one real connection between Iraq and the war on terror: the fact that Iraq sucks our time, attention and resources away from the real enemy. Yes, there are still evil people planning attacks against the United States. But theyre not in Iraq. Theyre in Germany, France, Spain, the U.K., Malaysia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and other hot spots. Every time they hear President Bush say were going to stay the course in Iraq, they say Thank You, George for giving them more time to plot, plan, raise money and round up new recruits.
The most cynical part of Bushs new terror offensive is his promise to clean up the legal mess at Guantanamo Bay. This is nothing but pure political grandstanding. Bush is simply trying to take a disastrous Supreme Court decision which declared his military tribunals unconstitutional and turn it to his political advantage. So what does he do? After admitting hes operating a secret network of CIA torture prisons around the world and still holding hundreds of prisoners at Gitmo with no charges filed and no opportunity to see a lawyer, Bush now says hes willing to start obeying the law. Sort of. As long as Congress swallows the legislation hes trying to force down their throats. Wow! A president agrees to obey the law . . . maybe. This is progress?
Americans wont be fooled by Bushs new terror tactics, any more than theyll be spooked by his new fondness for comparing Osama bin Laden to Hitler and critics of the Iraq war to Nazi sympathizers. But Bush keeps plugging away, on the theory that if he tells the same lies often enough, people will start believing them. As he explained in March 2005: In my line of work, you gotta keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in . . . to kind of catapult the propaganda.
Sound familiar? It should. Bushs words are strikingly similar to those of another famous propagandist: Of course, the people dont want war. But after all, its the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and its always a simple matter to drag the people along. . . . Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to greater danger. Thats how Hermann Goering put it at the Nuremberg trials in 1945.
So whos sounding like a Nazi now?

Is Bill trying to sting our egos over lost popularity? Shows massive immaturity on his part to think the citizenry will sell out their freedom for vanity's sake.
The best decision is not always the popular decision.
Bill is another one....can't hold a job as all his
talking points are used up the first half-hour on
any program that is desperate and needs a dummy to fill in..
Press me..He's a dummy..... Jake
And it's working, Bill.
And the reason why it's working is that the Dems have no credibility on terror.
LOL, FOAD Bill Presstitute. F-O-A-D
Leading up to the 2000 election I watched Bill almost nightly on Crossfire. It is always good to know what the enemy is up to.
I am going to SCREAM if I hear one more Rat act as if the economy is something to be ashamed of.
Where do they come up with this complete and total horsesheeeet!???
What alternative universe do you have to live in to even begin approaching the conclusion that we are still "in the worst economy since Herbert Hoover?"
I guess Bill got a copy of the DIMORCATICIDIOTS TALKING points!!!!!!
"projectile vomit alert" is no longer strong enough for Bill Press..... it should be "Projectile Diarrhea Alert!! .... coming out of his mouth"
So Bill Press thinks that a Bush quote (near the end of the spew) stating how hard he has to work to "catapult" his message over all the left-wing MSM propaganda is comparable to Herman Goering and the Nazis?? Just who is the loathsome propagandist here, Bill Press, you snivelling puling puking weasel?
No matter the polls, the President will hold fast. Because patriots do not have control of the msm, attacks on Bush and his administration and his determination to fight the enemy in Iraq and elsewhere will continue to come under fire. What all Americans need to remember is that his efforts have kept us safe in our own land for five years. Would the same have held true if democrats were making policy? I more than doubt it! Democrats have a history of getting other people killed! They should NEVER EVER BE ALLOWED to hold any office of importance in this country!
It's simple- DEMS ARE UNPATRIOTIC. They just hate that statement, so I said it.
Nah, there's another way: We can steal the election like we did the last two Presidential elections. ;-)
One word, Bill: Diebold.
I seem to recall that Bill Press once worked for the CIA, which alone would explain why that agency is STILL so screwed up. If neurons were matches and flints he would be unable to start a fire no matter how desperate the situation. An utter waste of oxygen.
It is the communists in Congress who is getting desperate. The reason? The Communist Democrat Party is in serious decline. While putting up a brave front the party has lost election after election for the past few decades.
Democrats are unable to raise money except from wealthy special interest rich guys. Democrat's core voters have slipped away leaving only blacks, illegal aliens and tombstones to depend on.
The Democrat Party has become the mirror image of the British Socialist Labor Party, and it shows
The only hope Democrats have of winning the Congress and the White House in 08 is either by assassinations or to stage a military coup using U.N troops.
As previously stated, these people have been lying to us for so long they have come to be self decieved. Look for exploding heads in November. When the time finally ripens for the revival of tar and feathers, Press should be among the first in the river.
Ditto.
Looks like the DNC toolbar has been downloaded by the Deaniacs. If one cannot see that Saddam was the one celebrating after 9/11, I cannot help you. Sadly, we have too many who think all terrorists are in the mountainous area of Aghan and Pakistan. Funny how they have hit so many countries on different continents while supposedly living in this one region in their caves where the DEMS and the MSM claim we should be.
The author is another MSM liberal diehard. He ignores the terrorists arrested all over the globe to include those in the USA. He basically mocks the President for being tough on terror, and; he calls it scare tactics to progangandize us, makes us all fools, in his opinion, if we buy into the terror threat. He complains and has he no real solution.
I suggest we take the terror threats seriously, as the terrorists are hell bent on going way beyond Malta where they were last soundly defeated on 9/11 around 1565.
And finally, in an already hilarious column Press crosses the line into shrieking irrelevance by invoking the dread term "Nazi," evidently unacquaited with the Internet rule that who first uses the term loses the argument. That isn't all Press is unacquainted with.
Getting Retarded, Bill Press Plays The "I Don't Believe There's A Terror Threat and You Can't Make Me" Card
Liberals always accuse Republicans of exactly what they themselves are doing!
