Angry protests against Pope Benedict XVI erupted in the Islamic world today as the Vatican struggled to explain a reference by the Pontiff to the Prophet Mohammad’s “evil and inhuman” contribution to religion.
The Vatican has tried to defend the Pope after comments he made about Islam and jihad prompted anger in the Muslim world.

Muslim clerics from Cairo to Kashmir declared the Pope had revived the spirit of the medieval crusades and the official sermon for Friday prayers in Teheran condemned the Pope as “rude and weak-minded”.
Muslims in Rochdale joined in the chorus of criticism, claiming the Pope had cloaked his own feelings in the words of a 14th century Byzantine emperor.
In a speech on Tuesday at Regensburg University in his native Germany Pope Benedict analysed a conversation between Emperor Manuel II Palaeologus and a Persian scholar after the siege of Constantinople in 1391.
He quoted the emperor as saying: “Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.”
Pope Benedict went on to question as “unreasonable” Muslim adherence to Jihad, a holy war to propagate the faith.
Today’s protests raised fears of a repetition of the outpouring of anger that followed the publication a year ago of cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed in a Danish newspaper.
The controversial Gulf-based cleric, Sheikh Youssef al-Qardawi today called on Muslims to protest, saying: “Muslims have the right to be angry and hurt by these comments from the highest cleric in Christianity.”
Turkey’s ruling AKP party joined the criticism. Its deputy leader likened Pope Benedict to Hitler.
An angry reaction to the remarks there could jeopardise a trip Pope Benedict is planning to make to the country in November.
The head of the Egyptian-based Muslim Brotherhood appealed to Islamic countries to threaten to break off relations with the Vatican unless the Pontiff withdrew his remarks.
The Vatican has so far refused to apologise. A statement by chief Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi said: “What is in the Holy Father’s heart is a clear and radical rejection of religious motives for violence.”
The Rochdale-based Ramadan Foundation immediately rejected the Vatican’s explanation. “If the Pope wanted to attack Islam and the Prophet Mohammed’s teachings, he could have been brave enough to say it personally without quoting a 14th-century Byzantine Christian emperor,” it said.

If you want on (or off) this Catholic and Pro-Life ping list, let me know!
Ouch! Right between the goalposts. Good work, your holiness!
Truth hurts. Truth hits everybody. And as usual, the louder the Islamkazis screech, the more you know something good is going on.

Catholic Ping - Please freepmail me if you want on/off this list

There is no need to apologize or play a political "damage control" game.
Much like LIBERALS, the muzzies are ALWAYS pissed off or offended by something. They're a great contrarian indicator. Like the LIBS, if you're pissing them off then you're on the RIGHT TRACK!
I always have liked this Pope! (And I'm Protestant!)
They HATE the Prince of Peace. The Ultimate answer.

The Pope hit the truth.
I think the reaction today is proving the point....
Never forget what Ramzi Yousef's associate Abdul Hakim Murad said after he was arrested by Filipino authorities in 1995 "two Satans that must be destroyed: the Pope and America." He meant the Pope generically, not the specific Pope at the time, John Paul II.
At least he has not caved to the pressure thus far.
I hope this sparks a reality check throught Christendom.
I really like this Pope. He had some giant shoes to fill, but so far I think he's done an excellent job.

LOL... it's protest season again in the Muzzie world.. i get to see funny mad faces of goats everywhere in the net... good find!
America and the Pope. Hmmmm.....
"Angry protests against .......erupted in the Islamic world today "
Now THERES something you don't hear everyday.

Pope Benedict XVI tells it like it is, without the sugar coating. He is not the diplomat Pope John Paul II was. I believe he knows the direness of the Islamofascist agenda to eliminate all religions except Islam. Christianity is railed daily by Islamofascists, both in and out of this country. How many times have we burned effigies of Mohammed in this country? Ill-slam is the religion of the mentally ill.
America got its revenge on him, at least. Murad's current residence is in the federal Supermax prison in Florence, CO.
I would love to hear His Holiness answer their demands with "Bite Me, Bozo".
Me thinks it is time to call all Catholics to church on Sunday. Fill the offering baskets not only with the usual, but with letters of support for the Pope.
I'll mail him a sausage. :)
Lets hope he does not back down. What the Christian world needs are some leaders with backbone and courage.
Here's the Holy Father's email for anyone who wants to send support (I did)...

Those Zany Muslims - protesting this, exploding that. Just another day in the turd world. Next week I hear they've scheduled some outrage about Kroger's plans to offer low-fat coos-coos. Too bad those Muslim guys didn't have jobs - then they would be too busy to protest and blow things up. Maybe their leaders keep them hyped on anger so they don't notice how their lives suck compared to the Immams, Shammans, Clerics, and other palace dwellers.
It's kind of amusing that when Dubya, Rummy, or Boehner call the leftwing moonbats for what they are, they start foaming at the mouth, just like the Islamofascists do when the Pope does it to them. The RATS and Islamists sure like to dish it out, but scream and rant when somebody calls them on it.
That's an odd thing to ask for. When was the last time we heard a Muslim apologize to Christians and Jews? Uh....never!
The Jihadists remind me of liberals more and more every day. They attack and attempt to destroy any opposition to their deadly agenda.
It's wonderful that he said this. It's what reasonable folks think, but it carries more weight coming from him than it would from a freeper.
Though I'm sure he IS a freeper. :)
Email the Pope your support at this email address:

Funny that all these prominent Muslims step forward to protest the Pope's comments. They did NOT step up and protest the actions on 9/11.
The silence was deafening.
Their reactions aren't exactly helping their side.
"We're *not* violent and inhumane! And we'll beat the snot out of anyone who says we are!"
If the shoe fits.
Any comment that sends muzzies into a collective tizzy is a good thing. It means the truth was spoken.
Truth hurts.
A very obvious but ignored fact by most "infidel" leaders and the MSM.. huh ROP.. i'm still waiting for W to retract that ROP statement!
Yep, they look peaceful to me.
When you're taking flak, you must be over the target!
Can't we get the NFL to put teams in these muslim countries so they have something to expend their energy on
Their favorite past time is raising hell in the streets
"...he could have been brave enough to say it personally without quoting a 14th-century Byzantine Christian emperor, it said."
Ok, so I am thinking that, in a debate of this kind, it's probably not the brightest thing to do, when you highlight that your "religion of peace" has been called on its violence-mongering objective since THE 14th CENTURY. Way to go there, islamofascist!
In addition to both liberals and Islamofascists being thin-skinned when it comes to criticism, they have two other things in common:
1. they want to destroy America;
2. the both hate the Jews and want Israel to "just go away".
The doctrine of Islam tells them to do just that.
Do muslims have any concept at all of how evil and inhuman they are?
