Sounds right to me. I just caught a snippet on the news. Basically, some businessmen in Europe wanted an exemption on selling aircraft and parts to countries we don't like. Ney promised them that he would take care of it, and in exchange they bribed him with thousands of dollars in poker chips. Seriously. He then took the chips, bet at a casino and won $50,000. That is one thing he admitted to doing. He was a crook. It doesn't matter that democrats do it too. They also need to be punished, but Ney deserves his prison space.

Just one of the many double standards Republicans choose to meekly abide by.

I love the way the NY Slimes refers to Abramoff as the "Republican lobbyist." I thought he was an equal oppurtunity offender.

I'm glad the repubs are held to a higher standard. Do you really want us to be held to the democrat standard ? It actually makes us the better stronger party.

Amen. This is embarrassing, and in the short term it hurts politically, but in the long term we are far better off if we do the right thing and send this guy to prison. Every party has some members who see their opportunity, and take it. The only difference is what happens to them when they get caught. Are they incarcerated, or promoted? Republicans go to prison.

It can be infuriating to see the Dems skating free, but I still don't want to change our response to match theirs.

Well, he is getting 2 and a third in jail IF he coughs up names and a judge signs off on it.

He's a Republican after all. If he were a Democrat, he'd get a slap on the wrist for taking classified documents from the national archives.

All past tenses gravitate towards -ed...In my memory I think the conjugation I favor is: I plead, I pled, I have pleaded... but both the American Heritage and the Websters have pleaded or pled as the past tense/past participle.

Don't bet on it. If Ney could turn evidence on Tom DeLay, he'd get a tickertape parade from these people, not 2+ years in jail.

DeLay isn't even in the top 5 of recipients of cash from Abramoff clients. DeLay seems to be guilty of the crime of knowing Abramoff's name.

WashPost had an article a year ago where they named the big 5, 2 were Dims and one of the Dims was Harry Reid.

I just figured out why the RNC worked so hard and wasted so much money on Linc. Chaffee, it's because Conrad Burns (MT) is going down.

I agree totally with you....but it ain't over by a long shot...those guilty will be getting theirs.....Dems or Repubs....they are picking off the easy ones first....what I don't understand is that everyone is wailing and gnashing their teeth on FR about why Dems aren't hit yet....well fair enough....but not many write about the fact that Ney was guilty of a crime.....PERIOD.....and should be sent away...like you said....he is a crook as sure as Duke and anyone else with the hands in the cookie jar......

"Ohio Rep. Bob Ney has repeatedly said he has done nothing wrong."

Honest. I'm telling the truth. I would never lie to you, for I am a politician. And politicians never take bribes and lie to their constituents...

We do need to raise the standard for democrats whether they like it or not. It is better for them and better for us. Jefferson of Louisiana needs jail time too.

Right now, chafee, burns, dewine, talent, santorum are all in toss up races, but SLIGHTLY BEHIND with TN a questionable open seat.

Chafee may be the one who keeps control for the gop. Hopefully we stay at 55 or above, but who knows.

I assume he knew Abramoff's name prior to taking the free chartered jet to play (free) golf in Scotland with him or the shopping trip to London?
