ISLAMABAD (AFP) - Pakistan's foreign ministry summoned the Vatican ambassador over the remarks by Pope Benedict XVI linking Islam with violence

"Apostolic Nuncio (Ambassador of the Holy See) was called to the Foreign Office," the ministry said in a statement on Friday.

"He was conveyed that the regrettable remarks attributed to Pope Benedict XV1 ... were deeply disturbing for Muslims all over the world, and had caused great hurt and anguish," it said.

"It was underlined that at a time when there was an acute need for promoting inter-faith harmony such remarks, regardless of the context, were very unfortunate."

The Apostolic Nuncio regretted the hurt caused to Muslims and said that the media had totally misconstrued certain historical quotes that the Pope used in a lecture, the ministry said.

He promised to sincerely convey the sentiments of the government and people of Pakistan on the issue to the Vatican.

Pakistan's parliament earlier Friday unanimously condemned Pope Benedict XVI and passed resolutions demanding that he withdraw what it called "derogatory" remarks linking Islam with violence.

You have to be joking! Are these people living in caves or what? Do they really think the rest of the world doesn't notice the violence that goes on DAILY around the world by these Islamofacists?

Baloney. The "regrettable remarks" just caused a lot of resentment among Muslims because people who don't want to face up to their own faults don't like others pointing them out. Instead of going into the usual "hurt and anguished - and therefore violent" routine, Muslims would do well to consider why the rest of the world associates their faith with violence and oppression.

I can see it coming next: A 'Fatwa' from some neaderthal sitting in cave somewhere or from a Imam from one of those civilized, open-minded, multi-cultural, liberal countries like Saudi Arabia.

Are Muslims so sensitive that you can not say anything about them? Perhaps "sensitivity training" needs to go a different direction.

I read the other day that they refer to all non-muslems as "crusaders".

Now I'm offended. /sarc

The Nuncio might say a prayer for his head.

The only reason Pakistan hasn't been totally flateened by our bombers for hiding BinLaden is that they posess nuclear weapons. This is exactly why Iran can't be allowed to get nukes.

to the forever outraged Muslims....

until you get "angry" about your own people and start helping take out the terrorists......

until your imams and leaders stop their hatred and calling for infidel blood....

BITE ME!
