Some Indian Muslims burnt an effigy of the world's Roman Catholic leader who quoted remarks which linked Islam to violence.
Angry protesters in Egypt converged on a Cairo mosque.
Other Indian Muslims joined protest marches.

As I recall the story, ...then it was his turn, he thought, to give a gift in return, a bible, the guy who gave him the koran took a step back and refused to touch it. In his mind, the giving of a koran was a one way deal, not part of an exchange. Pope learned a life lesson that day.

They are like screaming children, YOU HAVE TO IGNORE THEM. Ignoring screaming children is rarely a "Good Idea". Neither is ignoring Maniac Muslims, if for different reasons. I think you recall wrongly. This may have been a recent attempt to rewrite the occasion but it definitely was not a part of the original reports of the event.
There was so much vitriol directed at the Pope by persons from almost all religions that it would have been reported gleefully far and wide.
