A Maine couple upset that their 19-year-old daughter was pregnant tied her up, loaded her in their car and began driving to New York to force her to get an abortion, police said.
The daughter, Katelyn Kampf, escaped Friday at a shopping center and called police, who arrested her parents, Nicholas Kampf, 54, and Lola, 53, of North Yarmouth, Maine. They were jailed on a kidnapping charge and were being held on $100,000 bail each.
The parents were scheduled to be arraigned in Salem District Court. A call to attorney Mark Sisti was not immediately returned.
"Her parents chased her out into the yard, grabbed and tied her hands and feet together," Salem Police Officer Sean Marino wrote in a court affidavit. "Katelyn states that her father then carried her to their car and they headed toward New Hampshire."
Investigators said rope, duct tape, scissors and a .22-caliber rifle were found in the Kampfs' Lexus and Nicholas Kampf had a loaded .22- caliber magazine clip in his pants pocket.
The Kampfs were upset that their daughter was pregnant by a man who is now in jail, police said, and before leaving Maine on Friday they had an argument at the parents' home.
"Katelyn stated to me that upon her parents finding out that she was pregnant, they told her she had no choice but to get an abortion," Marino wrote in his court affidavit.
Katelyn Kampf escaped from her parents in Salem after persuading them to untie her so she could use a Kmart bathroom. After her father went into the men's room, she used a cell phone to call for help, then ran to a nearby Staples store, where police found "a hysterical female hiding in the back of the store," according to the affidavit.
She got into Marino's cruiser while Sgt. Kristin Fili pulled over her parents.
"They told us initially they did take her here against her will, but they denied tying her up initially," Fili said. "Obviously what happened was a crime. She was taken against her will."
Authorities in Maine said the parents apparently thought that, in light of their daughter's stage of pregnancy and the different abortion laws in each state, the abortion should be performed in New York. Fili said she did not know how many weeks pregnant she was.

In that case, the 13 yr old not only would be driven to abortionist, told that it was her "choice" and abortion performed, no questions asked.
The pro-choicers might be her parents, grandparents, teacher, school nurse or even the adult who impregnated her.

Parents probably driven over the edge when hearing of the daughter being pregnant by a low life scum bag. They saw only a life of misery ahead for her.

EEEWWW -- too weird! I think they both look like those characters from the old "Twilight Zone" episode where the young girl had plastic surgery to look like everyone else. When you finally saw everyone else, they all looked like scary swine, and she was beautiful!
It's not that uncommon. Ironically, it's the 'choice' moms of the teens who are so gung-ho, and withdrawal of financial support is a big reinforcer. A couple of years ago, a teen I knew was coerced by her mother into having an abortion during her senior year. After a few weeks of coersion, she agreed. The baby's father was crushed, but agreed the teen have her 'choice'. So was the teen, who regretted it almost immediately, and, surprise, ran away from home, was depressed, drank too much, dropped out of college (has since re-enrolled). Ironically, or maybe not, the teen's mom was several months pregnant when she married her baby's father, and just a little older. They are still married, seem happy enough, are well off. But she apparently had no problem rushing off to kill her first grandchild. To my knowledge the girl's father never found out till it was too late.
Seems to me, from the behavior of these two, she already was well aware of misery.

So they addressed the problem by getting themselves thrown in jail. Brilliant. Also brilliant to consider the laws of various states and determine they should take her to New York. They might have thought through the laws about kidnapping and assault while they were at it. And the fact that no legal abortion clinic would perform an abortion on a 19 year old against her will.
Since the parents are obviously low-life scumbags themselves, they have no one but themselves to blame for the fact that their daughter feels comfortable associating with low-life scumbags.

They didn't say what the father of the baby is in jail for. Perhaps he put the smackdown on the lowlife parents.
