I was not taking an anti-Catholic swipe. I was just pointing out, in the name of accuracy, that the Pope's words were somewhat misleading.

As a general statement, the pope is correct. Yes, the Galileo episode was a great blunder, but if one looks at the last two hundred years, there has been nothing like it. It wass something like the reaction of some church leaders to the introduction of Greek science into the University of Paris is the 13th Century. Aristotle was suspect before he was ultimately taken as authoritative.
