Comments by Friedman are no laughing matter, some say

AUSTIN -- Kinky Friedman has thrived on brash commentary, outlandish attire and crude humor. But some critics say the independent candidate for governor has gone too far with his comments about African-Americans.

Friedman, in a video clip that some of his opponents began circulating Tuesday, calls Negro a "charming word" and uses it in an explanation of what he would do to sexual predators if he is elected in November.

"Throw them in prison and throw away the key and make them listen to a Negro talking to himself," Friedman said in the TV interview, which CNBC broadcast late last year. The comments hardly made a splash at the time, but the video, posted on www.youtube.com, is sparking fresh criticism.

The last time I checked, Negro meant black in Spanish.

Maybe Kinky doesn't really want to be Governor, it was all a joke, and this is his way of sabotaging his own campaign.

And there it is. Not a peep out of anyone last year, but when Kinky's tied for 2nd in the polls it's a different story.

"Some say" in the title means the writer and editor of the article say. Cheezy MSM trick no. 137.

The Islamfacisits learned to riot and raise hell over words from Americans. Negro is a perfectly good word but Blacks won't tolerate it.

We're thinking the same thing here. I don't think he thought he would ACTUALLY be in the running. THe better his numbers get, the more controversial he's becoming. Setting himself up the bomb?

Can I still say my shoes are black or are they "African-American."

I should check the box. Maybe there's Spanish writing on it that says they are "negro."

Friedman has opponents? LOL...the guy is on a publicity lark which frees him up to say anything he wants it makes the PC crowd look ridiculous, again.

Well, it's better than some of the other words people use. It's basically the same as referring to a white person as a Caucasian. Some people must have pretty thin black skins.

I bet this is really going to upset the National Association of Colored People.

Kinky Friedman criticized for Katrina comments

Associated Press

AUSTIN -- A Houston-area lawmaker said today that she is "vehemently insulted" by independent gubernatorial candidate Kinky Friedman's derogatory comments about Hurricane Katrina evacuees.

Friedman last week attributed a spike in Houston's crime rate to the "crackheads and thugs" who evacuated New Orleans

We have people on here that are going to vote for him which speaks volumes. One by one they are coming out of the woodwork to support this nut. Was on a thread last night when someone finally posted what he stands for including legalizing drugs and then it made sense. The Bush haters were on Kinky's side! :)

"Throw them in prison and throw away the key and make them listen to a Negro talking to himself,"

Politically-incorrect, of course, but maybe it's not such a bad plan compared to air-conditioned comfort, free college educations, color cable TV's, and Internet access......

Sounds like a plan to me!

He could never get my vote, but I think he is spot on about some of the Katrina refugees.

If Kinky had clarified his statment by saying mumbling nego meant Louis Ferrakhan or Bill Cosby, he'd be on top of the polls right now. Of course the ACLU would claim cruel and unusual punishment.

It's Karl Rove Man! He's helping Perry get reelected using Kinky as a Perot candidate to suck lib/green votes. Now that Perry is up by 20+ points Kinky has to self detonate.
