The techniques sought by the CIA are: induced hypothermia; forcing suspects to stand for prolonged periods; sleep deprivation; a technique called "the attention grab" where a suspect's shirt is forcefully seized; the "attention slap" or open hand slapping that hurts but does not lead to physical damage; the "belly slap"; and sound and light manipulation. Ross: "About 2 and a half minutes."
2 1/2 minutes of belly slaps and shirt grabs?
And they caved? Oooh, what tough guys when the tables are turned. Oh, how 'awful'... (end sarcasm)

The conventional wisdom is that torture does not produce good intel. "Coventional wisdom", as propagated by the MSM, is always in service of an agenda. And, almost always, a stone lie.

The conventional wisdom Fairly recent invention that attempts to deny thousands of years of proven success is that torture does not produce good intel.Fixed it. Study military history. Pick ANY time period you like.

Is it wise for them to share these techniques with the public?

Chemical-assisted interrogation is far, far more reliable. The subject simply doesn't have the willpower to lie, and frightening them makes it even easier to get the info needed. Better living through modern chemistry. Physical "torture" is so 18th century. Quality pharma's will always produce fantastic results. Worst case; we spend a Gajillion bucks figuring out why Achmed freaked out. After he willingly puts out all information at his disposal, and recruits several "into the fold".

One man's hazing is another man's torment is yet another man's torture. The distictions many times blur into an out of focus pile of puss and indistinguishable subjectivity!!!
Who sets the standards or makes the distinctions in these matters of "degree?" It's all "relative" like in Einstein being played by Sean Penn, or like the holidays when we have Mrs. Wasp's relatives over...

For anyone who has gone through SERE training, waterboarding can be very traumatic.

CIA operatives did this interrogation. not the military.
not sure what you mean about not leaving a mark. Ever swallowed water and then coughed it out? I have many times and have no discernable issues after the terrifying incident.

Is it possible to be trained to resist waterboarding? Will al Queda training camps do it to trainees a few times to show them that it doesn't really hurt them and train them to resist the initial panic response?

it was actually waterboard that broke Khalid. Some others apparently broke with the attention grab and other techniques. one got off the board sobbing... lol. I love that

The conventional wisdom--torture doesn't produce good intel--is correct. The fact is that the 'rough' interrogation techniques our people have been using, which the wusses on the left misname 'torture', are more subtle and effective than torture.

Perhaps some people have never been to the dentist, nor been subjected to general anesthesia. My personal best is 25 seconds.
