At the Mars 'face,' such characteristic landslides and an early form of debris apron formation can be seen.
'Skull-shaped' structure appears in some images
On 22 July, the HRSC finally met success during orbit 3253, and a wide area in Cydonia was imaged at the best possible resolution and in 3D.
In fact, in addition to the well-known 'face' and 'pyramids,' a naturally skull-shaped structure also appears in some of the Mars Express images.
As the famous scientist and writer Carl Sagan said: "Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were. But without it we go nowhere."

As the cameras get better and better, it's obvious these are just rocks, but part of me wishes there was enough there to motivate people to go investigate. I hate to think the remainder of my life will be spent thinking about the next election, or illegal immigration, or Iranians, etc. I would much rather we went out into space and had some adventures.

A colour perspective view showing a naturally 'skull-shaped' formation located in Cydonia region. The image shows a remnant massif shaped - at least somewhat - like a skull. (Credits: ESA/DLR/FU Berlin (G. Neukum))

I've been following this for years and, I guess have to admit I wanted it to be a face.....a real face looking out into space telling all who might fly by that there was some sort of civilization on Mars at one time.
But this pic just blew that childhood thought right out the old fart fan.

Now that I look at it ... the pic circled is not the one singled out.

It looks more like a mountain range now that the pictures are clearer.

NOTE: Do not get on the bad side of Richard Hoagland. You will start to experience missing time, black helicopters over your house and vists from Men in Black that look eerily like aliens. This is your last warning to not push this issue... :o)

Is that an ESA image? Why don't they mention RCH, who is the one who brought so much attention to this region of Mars?
