It does explain, or at least backup what the poll suggests.
In GENERAL, the rich (a) don't feel the same need for God and faith as the poorer. When faced with lifes difficulties, the rich have the money to deal with it. Those with less means trust in thier faith. It could be argued that our government wants it that way as well. Every bit of currency tell us "In God we trust" suggesting not to trust in the currency itself.
(B) Luke 16: 13
Jesus said, "No servant can serve two masters.
He will either hate one and love the other,
or be devoted to one and despise the other.
You cannot serve God and money.
