There's a long tradition of candidates releasing their own polls that show them - surprise! - running strong. Only time will tell if Republican Ron Saxton is really running even with Democratic Gov. Ted Kulongoski, as a new poll from the Saxton campaign shows.
The survey, by pollster Bob Moore, shows the two candidates each with 38 percent of the vote. The Constitution Party's Mary Starrett is next at 3 percent. You can find a few more details on Moore's Web Site.
The last published poll, by Zogby, showed Kulongoski with a seven-point lead. It was conducted at the beginning of September, just as Saxton was beginning a TV ad campaign. Kulongoski didn't begin his own television advertising until this week, after the Moore poll was conducted.
Saxton (R) | 38% |
Kulongoski (D-inc) | 38% |
Starrett (Constitution) | 3% |
Morley (Libertarian) | 1% |
Keating (Pacific Green) | 1% |
A sawbuck says the 3rd party screws the GOP out of the Governorship again in Oregon.
Oregon Ping...plus I'd also like to add, that I've always thought of Ron as "Ron Tax-A-Ton" myself.
It looks to me like the Governor will be reelected even though he's not all that popular.
No party screws another party out of winning ~ the candidate with the most votes, wins!
With all due respect, baloney. It happens many times. Sometimes to our advantage, sometimes to theirs. That's a tactical move that has been employed since the 19th century.
With all due respect, Sport ~ we have many different political Party's in this country: deal with it!!
Get out there, support your candidate and stop whining about getting screwed!
And some of those parties and candidates exist to deprive one or the other party of victories. A 3rd party Conservative deprived Tom McClintock of his 2000 contest for CA State Controller, deprived Kevin Mannix of his win in 2002 for OR Governor, WA Congressman Rick White of a 3rd term in 1996, John Thune of a victory against SD Sen. Tim Johnson in 2002, WA Sen. Slade Gorton in 2000, and umpteen more examples.
It is very simplistic to make a statement, "deal with it !" when these parties legitimately deprive OUR party of critical contests. In fact, that ONE loss in Washington state gave the 'Rats the opportunity to control the Senate following Jeffords's switch. One contest and one selfish 3rd party candidate placed national security in jeopardy. You may trivialize it, but it is a VERY serious issue.
Cry me a river ~ the cat that gets most votes, wins!
That might be simplistic to you ~ the truth isn't complicated. *sigh*
My apologies for attempting an adult discussion on political realities with you. Have a nice day.
Apologies accepted ~ your patronizing attitude is not very empowering.
I'm having a great day ~ it's the one I'm living.
