Rally on Mall supports troops (Free Republic mentioned)
Washington Times ^ | 09/24/06 | Tarron Lively

Backers of the war on terrorism rallied on the Mall yesterday for the second annual Support the Troops and Their Mission Weekend in Washington.

A crowd estimated at between 70 and 100 people waved U.S. and military flags as they listened to speeches by family members of soldiers and representatives of groups such as FreeRepublic.com, the sponsor of the rally; Project 21; and Military Families Voice of Victory.

Kristinn Taylor, co-founder and spokesman for the D.C. chapter of Free Republic, moderated the event, which honored Gold Star and Blue Star families.

"The myth is that we've all come together after 9/11, which isn't entirely true," he said. "The left [wing] is the left. It will always attack America first, will always blame America first, will always work with our enemies to bring down America.

"So, we made a vow that we would not allow the anti-American left to do to this country and this generation of our military what they did to them during Vietnam, and we've kept that vow for five years now," he said.

Mychal Massie, a member of Project 21, a network of black conservatives, agreed.

U.S. troops "place service to America before service to themselves, realizing that service to America is indeed service to us all," Mr. Massie said. "They need to know that we support their families, their friends and, most of all, their children. ...Tomorrow's freedom rests on their [children's] shoulders."

Richard August of North Kingstown, R.I., whose son, Matthew, was an Army captain killed in Iraq two weeks before his 29th birthday in 2004, said he doesn't regard his son's death as a tragedy.

I showed the pictures to my Mom. She said I looked like I came from West Virginia instead of Virginia, he, he he. Maybe I need to get some moustache wax for next time :)

On rereading the newspaper article, I really noticed the opening phrase, "Backers of the war on terrorism...". I like that. No need to launder it several times until it fits confortably.

W04MAN, no way Karl could be as proud of me as I am of him, but I understand. It's a genetic/social thing, and the old ape has chest-pounding rights. The wonder of it all is how he managed to come out so well, considering the gene pool he had to work with. Must have gotten his character from his mom, or at least her Thai cooking. Of course, one look at the state of his bedroom and you'd know what he inherited from me :)

BTTT! Thanks to all who showed up and helped put this together. I fear at times that the pro-troop movement gets too complacent in promoting this important cause.

Our "adversaries" in the anti-war movement are on the case everyday trying to undermine the war on terrorism. They see it as unjust and inhumane, and thus they are motivated to do everything they can to bring about the defeat of U.S. Troops and their missions, so that our nation will give up the cause, pull our troops back home, and end the fight.

Meanwhile the Islamic jihadists who our troops are fighting are also working every day to plan new attacks against both civilian targets here at home, and in allied nations throughout the civilized world, as well as planning attacks to kill/injure as many U.S. Troops as possible.

It is therefore, in my opinion, of absolute paramount that we do not flag or fail in our efforts to provide the counterbalance to the anti-military/anti-war contingent, and that we do not let our troops think for one minute that the cause is not just, or that their countrymen do not support them or have the will to see this war through to an end - one that is victorious for the cause of freedom.

Yaaaayyyyy, Just A Nobody!

Glad you all had such a nice day and thanks to all in attendance for supporting our brave troops.

(Still working on the logistics for my possible trip to Johnstown - hope it all comes together and I will be able to join you then. Just read a Newsmax article today about the old Cut and Runner Murtha being the impetus for Bill C's decision to withdraw from Somalia - man, that really got me steamed! Here's the url in case you'd like to get fired up, too.) http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2005/11/21/100353.shtml

Cheers - Dinah

Thank you for your son's service, and thank you for your sacrifice.

I live too far away, wasn't there yesterday, but I want you-and all military and military families-to know how much I appreciate what you do and what you sacrifice so that all Americans can remain free. THANK YOU!

Great work on the rally and way to go on the sound system. It's not on MP3 anywhere I can download, is it?

This morning in church an Air Force man about to be deployed was called down to the alter...all the veterans too, to lay hands on him and pray as the whole church of 250 people prayed for him, his unit and all the troops overseas and at home. It was great to be an American this morning.

God bless our troops and God bless DC Chapter, Project 21 and Military Families Voice of Victory. Thank you for having this rally!

Thanks for the ping, bob! I just finished watching Kevin Martin. He was fantastic as always. I remember seeing him last year (on CSPAN). I'm glad you taped it so those of us who didn't get to go still get to see what we missed.

The "Bad Analogy" comment you hear, is me

LOL I loved his reaction after you said that. ;o)

I was just complaining to my son that I wished you had shown Diana Irey's speech too!

Now that's what I call service. Thanks

I actually did pretty good getting that video uploaded.
I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Tiggles will have more sometime this week, but, IMHO, those two clips were the highlights.
