I don’t know what a Tom Cruise moment is so I cannot comment on that to either of you. I don’t watch much concerning Cruise and don’t follow what he does.

I agree the so-called melt down will be debunked by the radio shows and new media. I still believe Clinton was playing to his supporters and trying to create another Sister Souljah moment. Not for you but if anyone wants a refresher click on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sister_Souljah_moment to understand what that means. Democrats believe this was the turning point in Clinton’s first run for president, which got him the nomination.

My point is that Clinton did what he did in a cold, calculated way in an attempt to create a furor that would change the subject and stem the tide of momentum Republicans have enjoyed for the past month. I hope this does not turn out to be a he-said/she-said argument and the public turns it off and tunes it out. That’s what happened during the Clinton impeachment too. Democrats were ranting and raving that the public tuned it all out. Clinton won reelection in the face of damning charges because the Democrats managed to change the subject.

So, how’s it working? That’s still unknown but Rush and earlier talk show hosts have been all over it today. The Clinton claims will all be debunked, IMHO, and he’ll be exposed as a liar again but it remains to be seen whether or not we can get back on track with issues that are motivating Republicans and independent voters to vote and support our side.

Even today the New York Times has again leaked sensitive documents, which most people realize is typical for Democrats and the media. But, is this what everyone is talking about or remembering? Not that I’ve seen.

Hmmmmmmm---I really hate to post something that I have no source for...to prove it..but I was so EXCITED about what I heard...that I posted it.

BUT, I was pretty sure that since Bill was obviously surprised AND very interested in that...that he would have Cohen on his TV show..and have him repeat what he said.

Needless to say...he didn't...so, I have NO way of proving it.

If anyone is upset that I posted it yesterday...and questions whether I heard it...the ONLY thing I can say is..you could go back over my posting history...and try to find where I posted about it on that day.

I can't remember ever running to my computer to post something I heard on a radio talk show...or on one of the Cable news channels.....if I actually did NOT hear it.

But, I have learned my lesson, I just won't anymore ...I get in trouble when I do....LOL

Thanks for looking though, Phsstpok!!

I'm not upset. But why not ping Bill to your interest and ask him to at least pull up the sound bite?

The "Tom Cruise Moment" would be a reference to when Tom went on Oprah and jumped on her couch to declare how much he loved Katie. He was still being dogged by rumors that he was gay or that he was being ordered by his Scientology handlers to find a young wife, marry and father a child. His "performance" was taken as a planned exercise, much as Clinton's tantrum is being portrayed, but everyone looked at him and was really put off and completely got the opposite impression of what he wanted.

I think (hope) that this is what will come out of Bill's melt down yesterday.

Thanks for the explanation on Cruise. I had no idea and have seen that referenced before without knowing. I don't watch Oprah either.

I realize everything Clinton does is for his benefit but this worries me because I also know he has an interest in winning in 2006 so Democrats can trash Republicans officially in the House or Senate, which will in turn help him rehabilitate his reputation and legacy.

Yes, he could have really melted down. But, I also know Bill is the consummate actor in misleading the public and I don't put anything past him. He got the nickname Slick Willy for a reason.

I think that Chris was very brave since he looks like a little guy and Clinton is a big horse that could do real damage in that state of mind he was in during the interview. Wallace was talking(I do not know how)back to Clinton, but I believe he was frozen in his chair. Most Police Officers will tell you that they would rather deal with any kind of situation except a Mentally ill person. They don't feel much pain during their tirades, they don't care how bad they look, they do not care who they hurt, and you are always the enemy to them.

The Sunday Morning Talk Shows - Review

A Clinton (Bill) sandwich

By Mark Kilmer

Sunday, September 24, 2006

This is a "Clinton (Bill) sandwich," as MTP was delayed for golf coverage, and thus his interviews went first and last. The first was, in the words of the interviewer, "unusual," while the latter was very pleasant.

Bill Clinton on FNS praised Dick "Book Tour" Clarke as the source of all good in his Administration and held up Clarke's novel as the definitive treatise on his actions in the war on terror. He was unhinged but the host allowed him to regain his composure. It was hysterical.

On TW, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist would not answer Steph's hypotheticals about waterboarding. We couldn't set a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq, he said, and the new measure on detainee treatment set definitions for Common Article 3 of the Geneva Convention.

Tom Kean, junior, said that he agrees with the President on tax cuts, and Bob Menendez complained about the "politics of personal destruction."

John McCain held court on FTN this morning, arguing for an increase in the size of the Army and the Marine Corps. and expressing confidence in his detainee legislation.

Arlen Specter and Jane Harman were guest-host John King's guests on LE. Harman, a former Georgetown law professor, argued that Specter was a "good lawyer" but had sold out on the detainee issue. For his part, Specter argued that he was not in a box and that McCain had taken the power of habeas corpus from the federal courts.

Harman argued that the "intelligence was absolutely clear" that Saddam had never spoken to al Qaeda.

And finally, Clinton and Russert on MTP. It was a very pleasant interview. He did not criticize the Bush Administration as overtly, choosing instead his air of superiority, and he said that he wasn't serious when he said that Hillary might not win a Presidential run.

Honorable Mention Awards for 9-24-06

Earlier this week MNJohnnie posted a comment to those of us who rotate doing the "awards" for the Sunday thread.  A quick note for those who don't know my approach to these awards: I view them primarily as a way to highlight posts and posters that folks should make sure to read.  This thread moves so fast that I know I often miss lots of posts and that means I am probably also missing some really good posts.  The process I go through is to try to first identify posts that are "notable or quotable."  Notable posts will tend to either have some significant insight on a topic (even if it's not directly being discussed on the shows) or a fact or (better yet) a link to documentation that will prove, disprove or simply further our understanding of what's been said.  Quotable posts are just that, funny, profound, or simply well phrased posts that are worth remembering and to be "whipped out" at need.  OK, back to MNJ's post the other day:

My sincere condolences for whom ever is the Top Ten judge this week!

Billy Clinton everywhere? Oh the horror! Oh the Humanity! Did we not just outlaw torture? Put this one on endless repeat loop and force the terrorists to watch it 24/7 until they crack!

Quick witted devil that I am I responded thusly (mostly because I knew I wasn't scheduled for this week):

Rod is listed in the last schedule, but he sent a note that he was being called out of town. He didn't indicate if he would still do it or if he needed someone to cover.

However, I think that whoever does the duty tomorrow will only have a problem with volume and too many great posts. After all, it will be a "target rich environment."

Well, guess what?  Rodguy911 was fighting some issues that made it difficult for him to cover this week.  So as things worked out I ended up doing the honors.  I learned that having a "target rich environment" is truly not always an easy thing to deal with.

As stated my approach is to pull "notable or quotable" posts in whole or in part into a subset of the thread.  I then cull through those posts to try to come up with the top 10, more as a fun exercise than as any kind of contest.  Remember, my purpose is to provide pointers for people to things they might have missed.  Providing some hierarchy to that can help and it can add a bit of fun to the process.  Make no mistake, every post on this thread is worthy of an award.  Alas Babylon! and I have been using the phrase The Jedi Council back and forth for some time now.  The group that participates here are truly masters of gathering, analyzing and communicating relevant information to an amazing extent.  Well, with this target rich environment (over 1,297 posts as I type this on Monday afternoon) I chose only (!) 193 posts to highlight.  That could easily have been closer to 1,000 posts (the ones about ED Hill didn't add to the conversation, so sue me!).

So, where do I go from there?  My prejudices lead me to prefer posts with factual information on a topic being discussed, particularly with references and, best of all, with links.  That doesn't make that right or wrong, it's just my prejudices.  After that I look for posts that "move the discussion forward."  What I mean by that is I want to see posts that provide insight, not just argument.  I get plenty of argument from my kids <g>.  I prefer enlightenment, even if it contradicts something I think is so.  And I don't have to accept the point being made.  I hope I'm honest enough to highlight posts that make a point well, even if I don't agree with it.  Finally, I value the posts that provide running commentary on what is actually being said on the shows.  There's no way to watch all of the shows (and in some cases no desire) and these posts make that unnecessary in many cases.  I also value funny posts, but I tend to use those mostly as tie breakers.

Once I've weighed the posts that I think excel, given my prejudices above, I pull those out of the original list and set them aside until I come up with a list of 10 posters that I will then try to rank from 10 to 1 for the "awards."  In the meantime, however, I don't want to discard the other posts that I pulled out of the thread.  The primary reason, going back to my desire to provide signposts for things we may have missed, is that the ranking process I do only reflects my prejudices and that doesn't in any way lessen the merit of pointing people to the remaining posts.  After all, I have been known to make mistakes (see my tag line).

Therefore, allow me to present to you a list of posters and posts, in alphabetical order by screen name, that I refer to as the honorable mention list.  Again, these reflect my own point of view, but I hope it will prove valuable.  I know I got a lot out of these posts and from these posters.  The top ten will come a little later.

Schieffer also seemed to know that his show was totally irrelevant this week

If Schieffer ever really truly for sure does figure this out, wow, WOW.

He agitates my stomach acid big time. He's mean, snarky, twisted.

Top 10 for 9/24/06

Here are the top 10.  See the honorable mention post for explanations of how I pick 'em and what personal biases I apply to this process.  Remember, the rankings are merely my own arbitrary preferences.  I will argue strongly only that all of the posts I have highlighted, both here and in the honorable mention post, are worthy of your time.

Tenth Place rodguy911

Ninth Place RobFromGa

Eighth Place Miss Marple

Seventh Place eeevil conservative

Sixth Place kabar

Fifth Place Laverne

Fourth Place samantha

Third Place Morgan in Denver

Settled back in and rejoining the fray with a vengeance, MID shows why some of us felt a big gap in our midst for several weeks.

Second Place Seattle Conservative

Princess Links returns!  Insight, evidence, analysis and documentation.  We have missed you!

First Place AliVeritas

Extraordinarily strong contributions this week.  Starting with rock solid analysis, relevant facts and capped with important links.  Well done!

Thank you so much, Josh! I am certainly in good (and numerous ;->) company!!!

In all the excitement I never posted my Dumb A$$ Player of the Week!!!!

This week our award goes out to the 42nd POTUS, only the second president in 219 years to be impeached, and the only president to be barred from ever appearing before the Supreme Court of the US (except as a defendant, God willing!). A certifiable liar, a grifter, a moral reprobate, that sweet talking, lovable ole rapist (keep abortion legal, get one NOW Free Pass©) himself.....
