(from 2001)
"The president graduated in the same class as Yale College Dean Richard Brodhead. With both showing a penchant for Sterling Memorial Library, and its comfortable couches, Bush said he and Brodhead had a mutual understanding."
"Dick wouldn't read aloud, and I wouldn't snore," Bush joked.

* Richard H. Brodhead -- President, Duke University * George W. Bush -- President of the United States
(Does this explain why the FBI has taken a 'hands off" attitude towards civil rights violations in the lacrosse case?)
In 2005, three FBI agents were dispatched to Durham after some crosses were burned (widely rumored to be the work of black teenagers), in order to "reassure the community".
In 2006, a certified hate group, the New Black Panther Party (which calls for the extermination of all whites), made death threats against defendants in a criminal case, even from inside the courtroom itself; met privately with the DA; and threatened the defendants' lives again in other speeches.
To date the FBI has refused to become invovled.
In addition, off-duty drunken police officers involved in the case beat up a black cook in a separate incident, using racial ephithets (Rodney King South?). Had this been the LAPD, there would have been a federal civil rights probe. This time, again, the FBI refused to become involved.
Conspiracy by the state to intimidate witnesses and destroy evidence is alleged; again, there is no federal interest.
Apparently the lacrosse players are not entitled to either a fair impartial hearing, nor to the same civil rights protection as the rest of US citizens. Or else the Feds are deliberately ignoring violations of the rights of some of our citizens.
FBI is concentrating efforts on terrorism, less on racism at a local level. If the crime crossed state lines, then they would be likely to get involved.
Reading this, I truly wonder if the "reporter" is in Jr. High School or High School. In "connecting the dots" between the POTUS and The Yale Prez, and the lack of FBI investigations in to local crime, the author forgets many connections and many dots...
"FBI is concentrating efforts on terrorism, less on racism at a local level. If the crime crossed state lines, then they would be likely to get involved."
The FBI will show up if a muslim says he was stared at improperly in an airport line.
And the prostitution rings alleged to be run by the Durham PD (and quite possibly by some in the Durham DA's office as well) may very well cross state lines.
And the siphoning off of federal grants to a very few people in Durham ($35 million was split among just 8 people; and the mayor IIRC just got $80,000 or so more for one of his development projects) certainly is worth a federal look.
Why would the FBI become involved in this?
"The FBI will show up if a muslim says he was stared at improperly in an airport line. "
I kind of doubt it. But if it is true, then it is because muslim and airport are 2 words you don't like to have in the same sentence. I'm hoping they are there to do a background check on that muslim rather than to be concerned about his hurt feelings (that's what the TSA is for).
