"I hope enough people protest the Cardinal so Rome will muzzle him. Transfer him to Mexico."

The most recent issue of The American Legion Magazine has an article that lists Mexican law. Under Mexican law, Cardinal Mahoney is unable to perform as clergy in Mexico.

The law prohibits "foreigners from most public-service positions and from becoming clergymembers".

you found your way here, you can find your way out

"There you go again, giving orders."

apparently, you can't tell the difference in a suggestion and an order. LMAO

Do you have anything to bring to the debate about illegal immigration

If not, pulllllllezzzzz quit bothering me. FYI, that is NOT an order but a request.LOL

Sounds like the RCC is recruiting for the Democrat Party, financed by the good old tax drones of the USA, as usual.

"Mahoney and the Catholic church have been knee deep in politics, illegal immigration, and 'rights' for those illegals - generally things that should not be allowed of any religious entity."

Religious leaders have a right and an obligation to speak out on moral issues but not to participate in politics per se.
The teaching of the Church on immigration is well stated in posts 41 and 34 of this thread.
The problem some of us have with this is that Mahoney does not appear to be following Church teaching on this issue.
This is not surprising to us as he does not appear to follow Church teaching on other important issues either.

Thank you. No time to respond further. Next time perhaps. For the record, I am fanatical about Illegal Immigration as well.

As I said earlier, I believe we still have freedom of speech in this country and if a member of the clergy wishes to speak; I may not agree with their position on a particular issue but I will be the first one to defend them of their right.

Now if you have a problem with that; then you should move to China where they don't allow Catholic priests to speak!

I can't really agree with you about Cardinal Mahoney. I don't fault him so much for his stand on Mexican immigrants, because although I disagree with it there are some good Catholics who somewhat naively think this is the charitable position to take.

Mahoney, however, is not just naive. He has been a dissident and a troublemaker who has spent much of his life undermining the Church. There's nothing naive about it, it's deliberate. The sooner he is out of office the better. He should have been replaced long since by a bishop who is truly loyal to the Church.

Well you and I are on the same page.
I don't agree with Mahony either and I too believe he should be replaced but I am NOT going to smear the man.
We all make mistakes and I believe Mahony is on the wrong side of this issue of illegal immigration. The Catholic Church and her bishops should be demanding that Mexico FIX THEIR MESS instead of dumping their problems on our back porch. Mexico is one of the richest countries in the world and there is no reason for their citizens or foreign terrorists to be crossing our border illegally and/or allowing illegal drugs to be smuggled into America.

Most of these immigrants become protestants, Jehovah's Witnesses, or unchurched.

May God in Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit confound, confuse, and destroy every plan and scheme of Cardinal Mahony, and may the Blessed Trinity convert his heart.

Cardinal Mahoney, Traitor to the Catholic Faith.

That is up to his flock. I am more concerned with his massive efforts to subvert the authority of the United States over its borders and over illegal aliens in its midst. I consider him a threat to the nation.

1) Mahoney is abetting outsiders in breaking of our laws and making your church a party to illegal activity; anti-American activity.

2) I have a problem with any protected institution being directly active in politics, this applies to a tax protected church as well as to a tax funded school system, to the officials of that church and to the officials of a teacher's union.

3/a) I would have a problem if the government sought to close down the catholic church, but I doubt if either you or I would feel particular agonies if Santeria were deemed illegal for cruelty to animals. (?/!)

3/b) What's your defense for Voodoo?

4) Pedophile priests being protected by the RC also might claim freedom of association or expression if they were out where someone could get them ... you OK with that one as well?

5) Just remember that Sharpton and Jackson are also 'men of God' - it does not follow that all men of cloth are saints.

I am a Catholic myself, and I will say this loudly, RESPECT IS EARNED, NOT GIVEN, and respect for the office the Cardinal holds only goes so far. Even if Cdl. Mahoney was for the sealing of the borders and deportion of all illegal aliens, I would still not respect him for the horrible manner he runs the LA archdiocese, how hetrodoxy goes unchecked, how religous vocations have been all but destroyed.

Maybe you should enlighten us kelly, as long as I've lived in the county Mahoney and the Catholic church have been knee deep in politics, illegal immigration, and 'rights' for those illegals - generally things that should not be allowed of any religious entity.

I've found the history of the Catholic Church fascinating. You may know of the Borgia family. Pope Alexander VI, father to Lucrezia Borgia, (he had several mistresses who bore him about half a dozen children) was a ruthless s.o.b. who killed anyone who stood in the way of his power trip. His son, Cesare, was a cardinal (thanks to dear old dad) after leaving the orders he became a murderous and ruthless duke.

There is one very important part of our Constitution we can thank the Catholic church for, Amendment one. Our founders wanted to spare us the strangle hold Europe had suffered.
