China has secretly fired powerful laser weapons designed to disable American spy satellites by "blinding" their sensitive surveillance devices, it was reported yesterday.

The hitherto unreported attacks have been kept secret by the Bush administration for fear that it would damage attempts to co-opt China in diplomatic offensives against North Korea and Iran.

um why is this not an act of war?

Because it reads: China has secretly fired powerful laser weapons designed to disable American spy satellites.

Rather than: China has secretly fired powerful laser weapons at American spy satellites.

I guess you did not read the article, considering your statement. The article clearly states:

According to senior American officials: "China not only has the capability, but has exercised it." American satellites like the giant (USA) Keyhole craft have come under attack "several times" in recent years.

Bayh (Dim of Indiana) said on Fox News that electronic components used in our Smart Bombs are made in China. If this is true, it is both dangerous and humiliating.

In any case, China has us over a barrell in so many ways that some day they're going to roll us, and it's going to hurt. Meantime, Wal-Mart shoppers, snap up those bargains.

How 'bout a 10 megaton crowbar?

If we're going to drop one, lets drop one on Moscow first. With the Cold War supposedly over, people tend to forget the Ruskies still have enough nuclear missles aimed at America to destroy every US city.

"Nghett!" .... "my uhpologeez to dah Drhushian people!!" .... "no more Vwudkah, but whee muoost dremoov gdrobal thdret !!"

um why is this not an act of war?

Because they own our debt and make cheap stuff for us to buy? That's my guess.

They probably did it in response to us shooting down Lil' Kimmy's play toy a couple months ago.

Oh, right. It failed because of technical difficulties. I forgot.

Interesting how the Panda-Huggers nearly won under John Negroponte to keep this secret...from who...obviously not the Red Chinese?! They know very well they are firing lasers at our satellites. That only means secret from us, John Q Public

So we are seeing a repeat of the exact same kind of politics of suppression of vital national security information that the public needs...and has every right... to know just like Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton's administration tried to do.

Chi-Comm appeasement has been really productive so far, eh?

This is the scary part:

In the end, the Pentagon's annual assessment of the growing Chinese military build-up barely mentioned the threat. "After a contentious debate, the White House directed the Pentagon to limit its concern to one line," Defense News said.

The public was almost not informed at all, and most of the issue is still swept under the rug to make nice-nice with these swaggering lying communists.

as always, follow the money. Not only are the fortune 100 completely in favor of whatever it takes to keep access to whatever parts of chinese labor or consumer markets they can get, you can bet chinese money is all over our political system. The DNC/1996 election issues were just a piece/tip/part of the iceberg.

It is an act of war and if I had my way, would receive a counterattack. But don't hold your breath. Look at how we "counterattacked" in response to the EP3 incident.
