Beijing secretly fires lasers to disable US satellites
Telegraph ^ | 9/26/2006 | Francis Harris

China has secretly fired powerful laser weapons designed to disable American spy satellites by "blinding" their sensitive surveillance devices, it was reported yesterday.

How it works

The hitherto unreported attacks have been kept secret by the Bush administration for fear that it would damage attempts to co-opt China in diplomatic offensives against North Korea and Iran.

Sources told the military affairs publication Defense News that there had been a fierce internal battle within Washington over whether to make the attacks public. In the end, the Pentagon's annual assessment of the growing Chinese military build-up barely mentioned the threat.

Maybe the Tom Clancy novel I'm reading colored my judgement but I thought the article was worth a post. If nothing else its another example of how desperate the lib's are getting.

That and I think China will do anything they can to hurt the US.

The Russians were playing with this same technology over 20 years ago. This isn't to say that what the Chinese are doing isn't to be taken seriously. It's just that I would expect today's US Spy Sats to have a certain degree of built-in immunity to this type of attack.

China has been at war with the US for years. It is about time people start to take notice.

Further, we sell China our scrap metal.

Anyone remember about the metal drives during WWII...we needed more metal for building equipment and ammo.

Sources told...

MSM make believe.

If true, good reason to begin arming our satellites.

"They also keep secretly changing the channel on my tv."

I've found that the handy and ever useful tin foil hats help reduce unwanted channel changing a great deal.

I would suspect so, too. If these guys really are firing lasers at our sats, I would imagine it's little more than testing what sort of defenses we've got going.
