TO THE DOSE COMMUNITY: Common Tator, one of FR's long-time bright lights, was in an auto accident as a result of suffering a seizure. He has been diagnosed with a brain tumor, the cause of his seizure. His last post was Sept. 25, and FReepers close to him have only just found out about what happened. Here is a link to the prayer and best-wishes thread for Common Tator: focus/f-news/1711690/posts?page=19#1

Thanks, mystery-ak for bring this sad news to my attention so I could post it on today's Dose.

PHOTO OF THE DAY: I really like this photo, so even though it was taken Friday night as the President and Mrs. Bush attended the annual National Book Festival gala at the Library of Congress, I'm making it today's photo of the day.

To the Dose community: Jonny will substitute for me the next two or three weekends while I move. I couldn't be more grateful to have Jonny on deck to help out in this situation. He's a great Dose host. :)

Anyone who can look like that while watching Bob Woodward get honored for his latest book deserves our respect.

Marine One (right, with President Bush on board, arrives at the White House as a backup helicopter flies by the Jefferson Memorial in Washington this morning. GWB returned to the White House after spending Saturday at Camp David.

The President walking across the South Lawn accompanied by...could it be our birthday boy, Barney, in the center of the photo?

Looking fit and handsome, Dubya waves to...well, Yahoo says its reporters, but I'd prefer to think it's supporters. ;-)

Although the Yahoo caption doesn't say (or even identify the people), one imagines this is a proud grandma pointing out her grandson to the President of the United States.

So Dubya, kind as ever, pats the boy's head.

This image provided by the Navy shows more than 70 Medal of Honor recipients gather for a group photo in front of USS Constitution, the world's oldest commissioned warship afloat. The occasion was a turnaround cruise and Medal of Honor flag presentation in Boston Harbor, Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006. In order for the 200-yr-old ship to weather evenly, she is regularly sailed out into Boston Harbor, turned around, and remoored with a different side facing seaward.

The Medal of Honor flag was created by an Act of Congress and signed into law by President George W. Bush Oct. 23, 2002. Each service was charged with presenting the flag to its recipients in an appropriate ceremonial manner. The flag can only be presented to a Medal of Honor recipient or a recipient's primary next of kin by a top-ranking member of the armed forces. The Medal of Honor is our country's highest military honor, awarded for acts of valor above and beyond the call of duty. (AP Photo/U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Chad J. McNeeley)

The Senate confirmed Mary Peters, a former highways chief, seen here September 5, 2006 with President Bush, to be the new Secretary of Transportation, replacing retiring Norman Mineta.

Happy Birthday, Barney!

In celebration of Barney's 6th birthday, here are a few of my favorite photos of our little Scottish friend. :)

Thinking of certain Dimocrat body parts, Barney nudges a golf ball on the Oval Office Rug.

Always guarding his Boss' back, Barney looks out the window of the Oval Office.

He also helps the President greet visitors to the Oval Office.

Barney and his red ball. A classic portrait of our favorite Scottie.

Barney laughs uproariously at the thought of Ted Kennedy ever visiting the WH again on his watch.

Waiting for The Boss to pitch a horseshoe.

Barney, bored with all the bloviating in Washington, won't be sorry to head back to Texas in January of '09.

He's even offered to drive the truck home.

Barney waits for the President outside the Oval Office. There's no better metaphor for the loneliness of the presidency than this photo.

Dubya and his best buddy in an unguarded moment.
