Hypocrisy, Democrat Style
The American Spectator ^ | October 2, 2006 | Ben Stein

Posted on 10/02/2006 6:17:26 AM PDT by libstripper

If there were an Academy Award for Hypocrisy, the surefire favorite for 2006 would be the Democratic Party. Just two recent items make the decision a virtual certainty:

The Representative Foley "scandal" is really worthy of a whole book on hypocrisy. On the one hand, we have a poor misguided Republican man who had a romantic thing for young boys. He sent them suggestive e-mail. I agree, that's not great. On the other hand, we have a Democratic party that worships ( not likes, WORSHIPS ) a man named Bill Clinton who did not send suggestive e-mails as far as we know, but who had a barely legal intern give him oral sex kneeling under his desk in the Oval Office while he talked on the phone to a Congressional Committee Chairman, took great pleasure in putting a cigar in her orifice and then smelling it and tasting it, and having her fellate him when in the sacred seat of power of the world's leading Republic.

Not only did the Democrats have a Presidential hero with a prediliction for fellatio, that same hero had a gay attorney general who supported lowering the age of consent.

Do you think that maybe someone could dig up some suggestive emails from Janet Reno to young women?

When did consenting sex between two adults, regardless if one is a subordinate of the other, become the definition of sexual harassment? Did I miss something?

What you missed was Sexual Harassment Training for governmental employees. (I have had it several times). A manager having sex with a subordinate is considered sexual harassment. The fact that it is consensual between adults doesn't change that fact.

Their rationale is that even if its consensual - it will have an effect on decision making concerning the subordinate.

The reason this is one of the worst cases of sexual harrassment is because a hostile work environment was created. Once it hit the media, everybody knew. I suspect most interns knew, BEFORE it hit the media.

And in this situation if you are a co-worker, there isn't anything you can do. You have no power. It's not like you could complain to Clinton's boss, Hillary, w/o fear of being let go. Or blackballed.

And if you worked hard to get the internship in the first place are you going to 'quit' or tolerate the situation?

Once ML was, thanks to Jordan, given a high paying job, it was evident that she was being rewarded in a way that other interns weren't.

If still don't think it was harrassment. Let me ask a question.

What would a major university do if the married Dean was caught fooling around with a 19 y.o. student/office assistant, and it made headlines?

If you honestly answered: They'ld fire him. Then you already realize that he took advantage of his position.

The difference is that a co-worker at the university could have complain to the board of trustees.

Whereas one Monica's co-workers had no one to really complain to.

If it were consensual, probably nothing.

If you honestly answered: They'ld fire him.
And they would probably be sued for wrongful dismissal.

The main way I looked at the Lewinsky thing creating a hostile work environment is that Vernon Jordan was not schlepping every other intern all over Washington trying to find them a job. Assuming (for the sake of argument) that there were interns in the White House that Clinton was NOT having sex with, it is not fair to them to have chubby Monica receive special treatment.

As far as the Bent One's concerned, there are a few other little matters, all of which the DemonRats have condoned or suppressed that are a lot worse than e-mail and IM propositions for homosexual sex:

-he raped Juanita Broaddrick;
-he sexually assaulted Paula Jones;
-he sexually assaulted Kathleen Willey.

Since we're horrified by what Foley did, we're doing far too much flagellating while the DemonRats are rolling in the aisles cackling with illicit glee, especially because of what their infinitely corrupt leaders have done and been enthusiastically defended in doing, viz:

-Teddy, the Hero of Chappaquiddick, kills a young woman (manslaughter), and obstructs justice to avoid prosecution. Did the DemonRats, after they knew about it, do anything close to what the Pubbie leadership has already done to Foley?

-The bent one raped Junatia Broaddrick, sexually assaulted Kathleen Wiley and Paula Jones, obstructed justice and perjured himself. Did the DemonRats, after they knew about it, do anything close to what the Pubbie leadership has already done to Foley?

-Barney Frank at the very least sat back and watched while his male paramour ran a homosexual prostitution business out of their jointly occupied 3 bedroom residence and denied knowing anything about it. Did the DemonRats, after they knew about it, do anything close to what the Pubbie leadership has already done to Foley?

-Gary Studs (D, Mass.) did Foley one better by actually buggering a male page. Did the DemonRats, after they knew about it, do anything close to what the Pubbie leadership has already done to Foley?

-William Jefferson (D, LA) got caught with a freezer full of illicitly gained cash that was apparently to be used in a bribery operation for which one of his close associates has already been convicted. Did the DemonRats, after they knew about it, do anything close to what the Pubbie leadership has already done to Foley?

Instead of the disgusting hand wringing, including drivel about it being virtuous to lose, the Pubbies ought to buck up, loudly say they've already done far more in the Foley case than the DemonRats have regularly done in far worse situations over the years, and cite the above examples. That should be our defense. Given the above facts, Ben gets it dead on right okn the hypocrisy point, even though I agree with you that he shows far too much sympathy for the pervert Foley, sympathy that probably comes from his having so many homosexual friends.

If we screw our heads on right and stop flagellating ourselves and wringing our hands the way you are, we can still win. There is no indication that Hastert or any other Pubbie leader, in any way, did anything actively to conceal Foley's activities, unlike the DemonRats who actively concealed, covered up, abated, and excused the far more vile and illegal activities of Teddy Kennedy, the Bent One, Barney Franks, and Gerry Studs. You're adopting a horrible moral equivalency attitude that says because Hastert & Co. may have made an error in not immediately driving Foley out of the party on the basis of ambiguous evidence, that's somehow equivalent to the active criminal participation and enabling of the DemonRats.
