No, I'm thinking more of Columbine, where some armed teachers probably would have made a difference.

Forget the privates. Throw chairs (for older kids) or anything else (for younger kids) at the gunman's torso and head. It's difficult to aim if you are dodging things and the kids are in motion (even trained people frequently miss moving targets). And, yes, if the boys were also involved, it would be even better. Chairs, books, anything else they can throw until they can charge in and bash the bastard to death or they can run away.
It's like the flights on 9/11. Backing down, following demands, and waiting only works when the person holding you at gunpoint doesn't want to kill you. If they do want to kill you, then you are simply helping them do so on their terms and you've missed the initiative to take them down, which is when they first start waving their weapon around or attack someone. And since the Montreal shooting years ago, it's been clear that any time a male gunman asks all the boys to leave a classroom, things are only going to go downhill if people surrender and comply.

Yes, he had a family, walked his kids to the bus station this morning. Called his wife and told her he loved her. DISGUSTING.

Death penalty and guarded, closed schools. What if someone had had a gun there to protect the kids? What if the school had been gated off so no one could come in?
There is evil out there, and to assume otherwise is foolish.

>You really don't need to pull Muslims into this thread. It has nothing to do with it. The real situation is bad enough without the melodrama
Adults going in
and singling out girl children
and murdering them
is so horrible
it makes it hard to think straight.
I bet lots of folks
are just flipping out
trying to get some handle
on how this happens.
It's really as if
this adult guy was possessed
by real-life demons.

>but I think it's really time for people to teach their sons that ...
Here in the US
we've seldom had to face it,
but maybe it's time
for parents and kids
to discuss difficult things,
like sometimes you must
choose between dying
while fighting for your life, or
dying following
some psycho's orders.
But it seems impossible
to expect children
to have to choose things
like this. I'm just at a loss.
The thing last week, now
this even worse thing.
I've never felt this sickened
by the daily news.

Time to end the schools are "gun free zones" crap. Sickos like this know schools are easy targets.
If schools are such easy targets wouldn't it be more effective to require all school staff to be trained with firearms and carry sidearms while on duty?
It would make me think twice about attacking a school. Could you imagine a grumpy old school marm packing a .45? It scares me.

13 year olds are too young for what I suggest, but for High School kids on up we need to institute a new rule in the moral code. When an attacker or a small group of attackers could be overwhelmed by the group they are holding, instead of waiting and hoping to be released alive, all able-bodied males need to fight and disarm the attacker. In such cases, one or two of the males might die, the rest would be saved. This would mean that sometimes, more people would die, but in many instances, fewer people would die. And the end result would be that there would be fewer such attacks, because the attacker would know that he would be faced with an early assault and would not achieve his sick, twisted objective, whether it is to kill some women, kill dozens of children, molest people or what have you.
The same thing has happened on flights since the passengers on Flight 93 fought back. Now, terrorists know they cannot take over a plane with a few guys armed with knives. They may try to blow up the planes, but they know they cannot take them over and fly them--the passengers would put a stop to it right away. At least on US flights; on Air France, they might not fight back.

Sounds like a good plan but most kids are terrified to do anything especially when an adult has a gun and is menacing. Don't think the kids have the same mindset as adults when it comes to fighting back because most of them don't. Fighting back may not have been an option in this case.

I don't expect children to always make the right choices and can't even really fault the boys for leaving. But just as we learned on 9/11 that potential hijackers need to be fought from the get-go, it's time to teach children that wen the man with the gun asks all the boys to leave, he's going to do terrible things to the girls and they need to fight, or they'll have to live the rest of their lives knowing that they left the girls behind to have awful things done to them.

We can't even seem to stop them from divulging Top Secret National Intelligence information. We need a debate on the proper role of the media in this society. Hint: It ain't whatever they feel like doing.

With FNC losing viewers I would suggest that the viewing public is getting tired of all the needless exploitation of every tragedy.
Frankly there are days when I wish FNC would go back to car chases.
