If that's the case the implication is significant, since he was 18 at the time - no longer the underage minor that ABC has been claiming.

He wasn't 18 at the time every message was sent.

The leftists at ABC will probably try to insinuate now that there were other pages besides this guy, but he seems to be linked to the worst of the IM messages & is probably the same person for several of them.

ABC's reporting has been sloppy to say the least. I don't doubt that the former page named by Passionate America sent most, if not all of the IMs featured on ABC's website. Their reporting should be clearer.

And some the leftists on the Internet are already doing just that. (Once again, conflating who sent the e-mails with who sent the IMs.)

But to out someone who was a minor at the time some of the IMs were sent? I'm not so sure I like that.

Well I say BAH! If he's a baby, let him stay in his crib. If he wants to overthrow Western Civilization, he will have to stand up like a man.

There's no proof of that - yet. But it's hard to figure out how the blogosphere would ever get proof if we didn't have his name. Which is why I'm of two minds on this.

I seriously hope no one is sending him death threats. That would be terrible (and criminal). Remember - he could be a crime victim, depending on what Foley did when and how.

“If the law supposes that,” said Mr. Bumble,… “the law is a ass—a idiot. If that’s the eye of the law, the law is a bachelor; and the worst I wish the law is that his eye may be opened by experience—by experience.”

I can think of a few reasons: it was all a joke to him. He saved them in case Foley was ever prosecuted, and more evidence was needed. STILL, the IMs creeped me out, and I've seen and heard a lot in my life. I don't know how a straight "kid" could deal with it at 18. I sure hope people leave this guy alone (though to me, he's still a kid - 21 was a long time ago for me). I hope all the pages and former pages are left alone so that the whole truth can be sorted out.

His reports have been a bit too breathless. THEN, Fox had that CREW woman as a source on a segment for Special Report on the whole mess, IIRC. I was infuriated.

Could ABC have INTENTIONALLY left his name on the posted image, so that people like us would find it, and cause outrage and dissension in Republican ranks?

1. How would any of this be at all different from the NEA sex education policy delivered to students via e-mail???

2. How would any of this be at all different from the ACLU constantly molesting the Boy Scouts in court?

3. How would any of this be at all different from a Gay Pride parade in downtown Anytown, USA???

4. How would any of this be at all different from having pornography accessible in public libraries???

5. How would any of this be at all different from having a potential presidential candidate who dresses up like a girl???

The age of consent for sex was 16. There are no ex-post facto laws in the US (at least there shouldn't be). If the federal law which prevents such activity (explicit IMing a minor) came after the explicit IMs, there is no case against Foley in federal law, IMO. Doesn't make it right, or moral. Just probably not illegal.

...left alone by citizens (no threats etc) but not by FBI. If any of these pages were involved in extortion, which is a part of this whole thing (BlogActive says it -if you're a closeted gay Republican, they'll out you - same with Dems I'm sure if they don't vote the "right" way - the whole thing should have been looked at years ago). The big question is why the outers are allowed to do what they do- threaten people to get them to vote a certain way.

Lib activities about the time the page would have turned 18:

FEBRUARY 2003 : (CREW aka "Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington" BECOMES ACTIVE) http://www.citizensforethics.org/news/20030719_natljrnl.php CREW has been active only since February [2003] , so its profile is still relatively low. Yet Republicans detect a strong Democratic orientation. Sloan, most recently an assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, is a former aide to Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del.; then-Rep. (now Sen.) Charles Schumer, D- N.Y.; and Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich. In addition, CREW's three board members are Mark Penn, President Clinton's former pollster; Daniel Berger, a trial lawyer from Philadelphia and a Clinton fundraiser; and Louis Mayberg, the president of a mutual fund company. 10 posted on 01/28/2004 10:52:10 AM PST by jimbo123

FEBRUARY 2003 : (SPECIAL INTEREST NONPROFIT GROUP 'CREW' aka CITIZENS FOR RESPONSIBILITY AND ETHICS BECOMES ACTIVE - IT IS FILLED WITH FORMER CLINTON ADMINISTRATION PEOPLE, INCLUDING MELANIE SLOAN, FORMER ASSISTANT US ATTORNEY IN DC) ... CREW aims to counterbalance the conservative legal watchdog groups that made such a strong impact over the past decade. These groups focused their attention on their left-wing adversaries, leaving the right relatively free from scrutiny. CREW focuses equal attention on misconduct by all, including the right. - CREW website * (* Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a non-profit legal watchdog group, ....Melanie Sloan serves as CREW's Executive Director. - CREW website)
********
CREW assisted former Rep. Chris Bell (D-Texas) in drafting a complaint against Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas) that resulted in the majority leader’s admonishment by the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct.
Last May [2004], CREW wrote to Attorney General John Ashcroft requesting an investigation into whether former Rep. (now Sen.) John Thune (R-S.D.) violated a federal criminal statute prohibiting members of Congress from lobbying their former colleagues for one year after they leave Congress.
In October [2004], CREW asked the Department of Justice Public Integrity Section to investigate whether Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-Colo.) broke federal law by running her reelection campaign out of her congressional district office.
There is a pattern here. In the overwhelming majority of complaints and critiques detailed in news releases posted on CREW’s website, Republicans or their allies are the targets. One of the few complaints lodged against a Democrat was a joint complaint against Sen. Blanche Lambert Lincoln (D-Ark.) and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.).
CREW repeatedly demands greater disclosure by political players. In November, it wrote to the IRS demanding that the agency to enforce disclosure requirements on contributions made to 527 groups founded by DeLay, Texans for a Republican Majority Political Action Committee and Americans for a Republican Majority Political Action Committee.
Last September [2004], CREW wrote to The Washington Post criticizing the paper for failing to reveal that columnist Robert Novak’s Aug. 9 column praising Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry benefited Novak’s son, Alex the director of marketing for the book’s publisher, Regnery.
When pressed, CREW has confirmed that Mark Penn, President Bill Clinton’s former pollster, and Daniel Berger, an attorney and big-money donor to Democrats or their allies — $100,000 to America Coming Together last May [2004] and $13,750 to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee the following month — are on its board.
If CREW wants clean politics in Washington, it needs to learn that transparency starts at home. ------- "Who is CREW?," The Hill, March 30, 2005

The IM's are time-stamped APRIL 2003!

Let us see what the libs were up to around that time:

APRIL 9, 2003 : (NIGERFLAP : FORGED DOCS FROM FRANCE?) Western intelligence officials outlined the key developments in interviews here yesterday, even as Iraqis in Baghdad and Basra, finally feeling free of Saddam Hussein's 25-year reign, were cheering U.S. and British troops as liberators. Among the crucial factors the intelligence officials cited in explaining the remarkable 21-day path to the regime's seeming demise:
(clip)...article continues to quote Intelligence officials with the final paragraph stating:
The intelligence officials offered a tantalizing coda for conspiracy-mongers. They said the "crude forgery" received by U.N. weapons inspectors suggesting the Iraqis were trying to buy uranium from Niger as part of their nuclear program was originally put in intelligence channels by France. The officials wouldn't speculate on French motives. http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?pagename=article&node=&contentId=A1514-2003Apr9&notFound=true

APRIL 10, 2003 : (THE LEFTWING GROUP 'AMERICA COMING TOGETHER' HAS ITS WEB DOMAIN, AMERICACOMINGTOGETHER.COM REGISTERED; THE REGISTRANT IS 'NETPOLITICSGROUP') One of the groups benefactors is the wealthy and radical Soros - whois.crsnic.net
(* My note : Note that it was started the day AFTER the toppling of the Iraqi government)

Everyone keeps citing some federal law preventing explicit IMing of a minor supposedly sponsored by Foley. I can't find it, and nobody else has been able to provide a link thus far.

The age of consent varies by state. In Florida, it is generally 18. In D.C., it is 16. Under some federal laws, it is 18. Under other federal laws, it is 16.

It is clear that any sexually explicit IMing of a consenting person 18 or older isn't a crime. It is not clear that sexually explicit IMing of a consenting person under 18 is not a crime, depending on the state the person IMing is in and whether federal or state law applies.
