Get ready for the crazies.
I understand why he did it. These people are crazies and terrorists and Mike is trying to appease them.
When they threaten again what will they ask for?
They explained why in their minds the girls more or less deserved to die and why God did it (because the Pennsylvania governor once did something that their "church" didn't like, I kid you not, that's their thinking).
Now they're talking about the soldier funerals and how they are such a great opportunity for them to get their message out. They are sick, evil people.
I mentioned on the H&C thread last night that soemtimes if you give these loons a chance to speak, they will discredit themselves.
Just like giving Howard Dean a mike long enough, he'll hang himself with the cord.
your link works for me, thanks.

The contrast between the unmitigated hate spewn on the one side and the absolute love shown by the other side would be the most powerful rejection of their views anyone could see.
The kook claimed that the US government used IEDs against their church in an effort to silence them. By her account, that is why IEDs are killing our soldiers in Iraq - God's revenge against the US for attacking her and hers. That's the basis for their placard: "Thank God for IEDs"
If people ignored them, they'd ruin the Amish girls' funerals.
If we did a physical blocvkage, the "church" would get the police involved and you'd have a huge media frenzy. If we counterprotested, that would also draw a bunch of media. This isn't like the soldiers' funerals where we can, at the request of the soldiers' families, counterprotest and at the same time show our patriotism and support of our troops.
This was a lose/lose situation, and Mike offered this as a solution that would at the very least make the Amish families be able to grieve in peace.
I agree that something needs to be done about this Church in the longterm, but this was the best solution for the short term.
I really hope you are kidding.
I agree...sometimes you are confronted with nothing but evil, and must choose the lesser.
I listen to Gallagher, and I know he was torn over this. I think he did the right thing sparing the Amish the vileness of the Westboro loons.
Yup, Mike just needs to stand back and let them implode on their own.
"Guided soundbyte"?
Pray tell what do you mean by that?
Like when she came out and outright said "Thank God for dead soldiers"?
Did the sponsors of Gallagher's program have the opportunity to pull their ads?
sw
"I agree that something needs to be done about this "
Yes....and the final act of that 'something' should be jury nullification!
Oooo, Phone calls...
Their actions have discredited them long ago.
Evil is here and working, we don't need these people out there trying to convert the weak to their way of thinking.
I understand what you're saying but these people need to be stopped, not given air time.
The kook says that Mohamed was a false prophet, then goes on to say that God sent Mohamed to punish Israel and America.
Neat logic, isn't it?
