"Red Alert for N(uke) Test" [Hint: MORE Important Than Foley]

TOKYO - Japan is ready for North Korea to carry out its threatened nuclear test as soon as this weekend, officials said yesterday. Japanese Vice-Foreign Minister Shotaro Yachi, on a visit to Washington, said Pyongyang's resolve to test its first atom bomb should not be underestimated.

"We discussed the possibility that the test would occur this weekend," Mr Yachi said after talks with US Deputy National Security Adviser Jack Crouch. North Korea issued a statement on Tuesday saying it would test a nuclear bomb, dramatically raising the stakes in its standoff with the US on its quest for atomic weapons. "They will probably go ahead and do it as they had that tone in their declaration," Mr Yachi said.

"It possibly means they are already very prepared." North Korean leader Kim Jong Il reportedly gathered top military commanders for a rally yesterday, urging them to bolster defences.

Attendees responded with cheers of hurrah and chanted slogans such as, "Let's fight at the cost of our lives for the respected Supreme Commander comrade Kim Jong Il". Tomorrow is the anniversary of Kim Jong Il's appointment as head of the Korean Workers' Party in 1997. In Tokyo, the Government said it was ready for a test by the arch-rival communist state. "We are making preparations keeping any possible scenario in mind," chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuhisa Shiozaki said. Japan would know immediately if there was a test, he said. Japan's new Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said he would try to find common ground with his counterparts from China and South Korea when he saw them on his first foreign trip, which starts tomorrow. "We need to send messages together to stop the north before they make such a reckless action," Mr Abe said.

The soldiers shouted: "Let's fight at the cost of our lives for the respected supreme commander comrade Kim Jong-il.

I don't know, this just doesn't roll off the tongue the tongue like a crowd chanting "We will we will rock you." Way too many syllables. They handed these guys a script, and said, "chant this or we will shoot you."

The famed Hill Remark of 5 Oct 2006 (Amb. Chris Hill) yesterday may just be enough to send the Norkies over the top; they were going to do it anyways, but this comment will strike them as an outright threat of war from the United States at a high level--no matter how much it is downspun by McCormick at State or the White House...despite the fact they, DPRK, have been threating war themselves explicity for years against us while we have been controlling our words and temper.

Foley is the hometown of Kenny (The Snake) Stabler, super bowl winning quarterback for the Oakland Raiders.

MORE Important Than Foley]

Now I know you're kidding! Nothing is more important than girl-talk, even when voiced by men.

No, not lame, but they are crazy and just about as willing to die as jihadis in our time, or kamikaze's in our parents and grandparents' time.

What are the likely outcomes - assuming the test is a success? (Aside from Japan going nuclear, that is)

Nah. The N Kors have a scorecard and know who is playing which position and what their batting average is. If they are not sure their cousins in Beijing can explain it to them in exquisite detail.

It will be much more interesting if the test is a dud.

This will wipe Foley right off the front page in a flash.
We may take military action in response--certainly there will be immediate convening of of the Security Council.

Additionally, anything that can be brought up that infers this is the result of the Bush Administration, then that angle will be played. For the libs, this will be their response, rather than getting behind the President, Japan and the civilized world.

And the Dims reaction will be: Hey, Foley is more important that N. Korea blasting off a Nuke. this is all Bush's fault. It's not fair that our October surprise should be overshadowed by a nuclear bomb!

U.S. gives N Korea stark warning
Thu Oct 5, 2006 12:18 AM ET
By Carol Giacomo and Paul Eckert (snip)

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States in its starkest warning so far said on Wednesday it would not live with a nuclear-armed North Korea, while Japan and other neighbors hardened their responses after the reclusive state announced it planned a nuclear test.

"We are not going to live with a nuclear North Korea, we are not going to accept it," U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Chris Hill said. He warned Pyongyang that "it can have a future or it can have these weapons. It cannot have both." . . .

We should not bomb Hiroshima. That will not deter the N Kors in the slightest.

I don't understand the big deal if they test a nuke, I test out various pistols and rifles on a regular basis, that doesn't mean my neighbor better be ready to retaliate or preemptively shoot me just in case.
Can anyone explain how testing something spells trouble.

Oh my gosh, there are probably 100 if not more scenarios!

The biggest thing will be to watch Iran and what they do. Also I'd keep an eye on all anti-US regimes in the US, like Venezuela, Cuba, Syria, etc. etc.
