Rep. Christopher Shays, R-Conn. Frustrated by Democratic attacks over the Foley scandal, a Republican congressman hit back with a pointed reference to Sen. Edward Kennedy's 1969 incident at Chappaquiddick in which a young campaign worker died after the Massachusetts Democrat's car plunged off a bridge.
Connecticut Rep. Christopher Shays made the remark when Kennedy came to his state to campaign for opponent Diane Farrell, who called on House Speaker Dennis Hastert to resign, the Hartford Courant reported.
"I know the speaker didn't go over a bridge and leave a young person in the water, and then have a press conference the next day," said Shays.
"Dennis Hastert didn't kill anybody," he added.

Shays said if Farrell was willing to host Kennedy, she shouldn't be so quick to judge Hastert.
"We don't know what he has or hasn't done," he said of Hastert. "But she had a fundraiser for Sen. Kennedy, and we know what he did."
Diane Farrell
Farrell said her "jaw dropped" when she heard Shay's comments, arguing Chappaquiddick had nothing to do with Hastert's current situation.

Brit just mentioned this on his news show.
"I'd rather have an IM conversation with Foley then go on a drive with Teddy.
...which would make an excellent tagline...or bumper-sticker."
Similar to the one that says, "I'd rather go hunting with Dick than go on a drive with Teddy." Actually, come to think of it, I saw that one a few days ago. Always makes me smile....
"He is STILL a Democrat senator!"
And... there is no statute of limitations on murder. Fat Ted should have seen a gurney and a needle decades ago because of this.
And why the hell should her jaw drop? It's about dam time someone called that POS on his murderous behavior.
Wow, you go!!!
He must have had a sex change operation. Either that or he used some fetal stem cells to grow a backbone.
The Count of Chappaquiddick disgraces our country every time he walks into the Capitol.
Mr. Shays got a little backbone for that one!!! Good going!!
"I could hardly breathe. Gulping for air, I started crying and yelling at him, What do you mean? What are you saying"
Oops, that wasn't Farrell.
Oh well.
lol~!
Should be repeated EVERY day. Hammer the swimmer everyday with that, including his party.
Yikes, so did mine! I didn't think Shays, or any other pubbie had it in them to make such a remark.
This plus calling for investigating sandy burglar makes me think the pubbies are getting serious about winning this year after all.
OK, I've not liked Shays for some time as I'm under the impression that he was one of the RINOs that fought against impeaching Clinton.
Right or wrong about that impression, I now am deeply impressed with this man.
Just damn!
ZINGER!!!!!
Good job, Paloma. The Democrats tend not to score as well when in the presence of anyone with a grip on history.
Bowney Fwank is a congressman.
Indeed!
